By low I mean not actually on the chart.
Ds is 10 years old and been covered up in winter clothes for months now. I just hadn't been aware how skinny he was getting.
He weighs 29 kg and he is very tall far his age 152cm
He has a small appetite but does eat a mixed diet. I have never forced him to finish a plate, food is a pleasure not a chore.
A family member who hasn't seen him for a while has suggested he is too thin, so I looked up the growth charts and he is -4 bmi.
Now I am scared something is really wrong.
He does plenty of sport but does get very cold.

Glad the doctor was supportive and has referred to the eating clinic.

The pale stool could indicate coeliac if still continuing. Weight loss is common in people with coeliac disease. Did he mention if he has stomach pain at all? He could be avoiding eating or eating in small mouthfuls due to discomfort.

If all the tests come back negative, make sure that he is referred to CAMH's too alongside a dietician, if it is an ED he will need their input too.

Glad the doctor was supportive. Just wanted to add an alternative view - I developed Crohn's disease at 15. I lost masses of weight (70kg - 42kg in 6 months) although a lot of that was post diagnosis. I remember doing the cutting up food really small and pushing it round the plate thing. In the early stages it wasn't that I was in pain, I just had zero appetite. Like in early pregnancy before the nausea kicks in when you just can't eat if that makes sense. Anyway, I'm not saying he has Crohn's, just that sometime behavioural changes re food can sometimes be caused by internal issues that haven't fully been understood yet. Good luck

White poo is an indication of a bile problem, did they check that out when he was younger? It may not be an eating disorder at all, just that he can't cope with a greater amount of food due to an underlying problem.

Here's hoping the blood tests are going to give you a sign of what's wrong and the way forward.

Whatever you do or are thinking, remember, it's not your fault Flowers

Blood tests all normal, so now getting a referral to an eating clinic.

Thankyou everyone for all your comments but time to head off to eating disorder talk page and start to learn how to walk through this maze one step at a time.
