My 7 month old DD saw the opthamologist today and he said she is slightly longer sighted in one eye than the other and needs glasses. She was referred as she has a squint. My oldest DD (5) also has a squint, but hers isn't caused by visual defect but is just the eye muscles. The consultant thinks that DD2's squint is caused by the difference in the two eyes and that glasses will prevent the weaker eye becoming lazy. The difference is quite small, as is the degree of long-sightedness, so she is unlikely to feel much difference with the glasses on.

How in the blue blazes do you keep glasses on a baby, when she is clearly going to take them off and eat them??! Would love to hear any experiences of this. I am usually quite good with medics but I find this consultant quite impenetrable...Smile

Don't panic ! My d's not quite as young (2 yr old but with development delay) started wearing glasses about 6 months ago. We were given rubber glasses with elastic that holds them on (a bit like goggles) it took about 2 days until he stopped taking them off. We had to be very consistent, every time he pulled them off we put them straight back on. He now wakes up and puts them on himself.
They stay on that we'll that he swims and jumps into the pool while wearing them and they don't budge !

Okay, this is reassuring! I was thinking that crawling and glasses were going to be a tricky combo...

No they can't fall off which is great and they look just like cute little minion glasses only in white. the only problem we have is when he is really tired he will take them off and just plonk the down and because they are white they are a bugger to find. We have ended up buying a second pair for £45 as a back up pair just in case !
