28 month old refusing all fluids

He won't drink anything.

We've tried over the last few days dilute (his normal drink - very watered down - various flavours), actual fruit juice (individual cartons and from his beaker), flavoured water and I've even offered him a fruit shoot! Nothing.

He was on movicol which I was mixing into his dilute and it took a few days of him refusing to drink for him to take it.

Now he is on day 2 of virtually no fluid and this has nothing added?

He is off colour - Lethargic, not eating much, grumpy but I'm worried about dehydration.

Any ideas? Or does he need to see a dr?

I would phone your GP for advice ASAP

Ice lolly?

CarmelasFridge · 10/03/2015 13:32

I'd go to A&E that's too long without fluid

Totality22 · 10/03/2015 13:42

Sorry just to clarify he has been off colour prior to refusing fluid. He is eating a little and drinking a small amount. He just keeps asking for 'fresh drink'..

I stopped the Movicol when he started being a bit funny about his drinks yesterday. For 24h we've only been offering normal drinks... nothing with his medicine.

We've tried various cups and a bit of bribery (biscuit for drink) but he's a stubborn little monster.

He has been like this a few before and been diagnosed with a virus

Ice lollys or jelly?

GothicRainbow · 10/03/2015 13:44

Make him a smoothy or go down the route of watery foods like jelly, watermelon, ice lollies.

I would also be calling the GP and getting an appointment. Is he running a temp?

Totality22 · 10/03/2015 13:45

He is taking small amounts of fluid but nothing like usual.

We were in A&E on Saturday (headbang) and at the Dr's yesterday for his Movicol. He is still having wet nappies.

He doesn't like ice lollies.

No temp.
Main issue is he is not drinking very much at all.

Now I think ive made it a bit of an issue? He's asleep now so I'll see what he will take when he wakes up.

If he has had so little fluid for 2 days that you are concerned I would phone your GP surgery (if you are in the UK it is daytime hours now so will be open) explain the situation and ask for a Dr to phone you back to give some advice. Don't leave it until later as it is much more difficult to get advice out of hours.

I would gently squirt water into the side of his mouth using one of those syringe's you get with Calpol etc. We've done this before when ill and mixing with Dioralyte.
