Leg pains in 8yo

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 07/03/2015 21:27

Ds has for the past two days complained of cramp style pains in his legs. Bad enough that he wanted to sit down but not bad enough that he didn't play football later!

He used to get them at night sometimes which I put down to growing pains but this time he has had them all day. He has gone to sleep fine.

He is generally very healthy but recently has been tired (evidenced by grumpiness) and has had a few sores or spots round his mouth. He has also been constipated lately when he is normally very regular (eats a lot of fruit!).

Do you get growing pains during the day like this or is it worth a trip to the GP?

He sounds a bit run down. If the tiredness and spots are a sudden change couple with the pain is probably get him checked out.

He might be a little bit anaemic or something.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 07/03/2015 21:33

I hadn't thought of anaemia - thank you. He does take a multi-vitamin and eats a good balanced diet but it would seem to fit.

I will see if I can get him to a doctor this week for a check up

Might be worth worming him too.

not sure if it would help but worms I think can screw up the digestive tract a bit or maybe affect absorption?

not sure on that but I can't see it would hurt to just make sure.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 07/03/2015 21:41

Threadworms?

He has always had funny digestion and we ended up seeing a consultant when he was five as he was losing weight. Bloods and scans all fine though and he has been fine since then and his arms and legs aren't so twig like (does make me worry about his health more than I probably should though!!)

hmm, was he ever allergy tested? Did you ever do a food diary?

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 07/03/2015 21:47

No never did that but I did wonder. He improved a lot after that and his appetite has really improved - he will eat anything now. I had a think about what he's eaten lately and it was nothing out of the ordinary. He hasn't lost his appetite either.

one leg or both?
with dc it turned out to be a stress fracture...
didn't stop him running and jumping, just feeling achy in the evenings.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 07/03/2015 21:54

It's both

How did you get that diagnosed and did you ever figure out how he did it?

Do you think hes possibly just used to not feeling quite right and just gets on with. It now?

might be worth a chat, just to make sure he's as well as he seems

mousmous · 07/03/2015 21:57

we went to a&e after it gradually got worse and he started limping during the day a well after 3 weeks or so Blush
it shows up on xray.
we can't pin down a moment when it happened, could be any of thos crazy 8yo jumps.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 07/03/2015 21:58

Yes. He is a get on with it sort of chap but has been complaining of tummy ache etc at bedtime. Will have a chat tomorrow to see how he is feeling after football.

depending on what he says it might be worth starting a food diary and getting him to document how he's feeling.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 07/03/2015 22:03

Yes.

We have a new GP who is very good with kids. The old one told us he probably had a food intolerance but he would grow out of it so don't worry. We pushed for a referral but consultant felt it was unlikely (ruled out wheat anyway)

I'd ho back and see him/her.

speak to your ds, get him to be honest about exactly what's going on with his body (if there is anything ) and go from there.

BuildYourOwnSnowman · 07/03/2015 22:07

Yes I will take him next week when the nice GP is there.
