How long does it take to get the results from a heel prick test if they find cause for Concern?

Takes a couple of weeks to get a letter. I imagine you might get a phone call if something is found.

Is there something you're particularly worried about. The great thing about the heel prick is that it picks up any problems at a very early stage.

In my area it's usually within a week. The local midwives usually visit or call you. If the test is normal you get a letter in 2-3 weeks.

Did has low sodium (whole other post) which could be a sign of cystic fibrosis so really praying the results comeback clear

It took a week for my dd's heel prick test to come back with a positive result for cf.

StillinShockAhhhhhhh · 06/03/2015 07:24

Tiredstressed feel free to ignore but how does the cf effect her day to day?

Tiredstressed · 06/03/2015 07:45

She has a supplement that she takes with food so that she can digest fat. She takes antibiotics twice a day and vitamins once a day. She has sodium once a day in her milk. We do physio twice a day. There is more routine. She is doing very well - you would not know by looking at her. Have they suggested cf to you? Feel free to PM me.

Tiredstressed · 06/03/2015 07:52

If you want, that is!

StillinShockAhhhhhhh · 06/03/2015 07:52

The doctors at the hospital literally won't tell us anything so I spoke to out gp and she said it is a possibility and that the heel prick test will give us more answers, I've never met anybody with cf so was really unsure how much of her life it would effect. Is she able to do most things other children her age can?

Tiredstressed · 06/03/2015 07:59

Yes - she goes to the childminder (we both work FT), plays with other children and is a gorgeous, cheeky little thing. She has put on loads of weight - 91st centile. She has been much healthier than the rest of our NCT group, ironically. It was a massive shock but our way of dealing with it is to focus on now. We do all we can to keep her healthy - physio etc. It is just the norm now. We get lots of support from the hospital. If people are full of cold, we try and avoid them but she has had a few colds now and they have passed without problems so far.

Just to let you know OP I have a close friend with CF. She's 33, fit and healthy, goes to the gym/swimming/spinning every day, plays competitive sport, spends her holidays hiking in the Lake District, and got married a couple of years ago. Hope you don't mind me commenting on your post!
