Does anybody know what this looks like

6yr old DS has woken up with a fine rash across his cheeks, neck and behind his ears.

He seems well in himself, it doesn't appear to be itching or bothering him too much.

Any ideas what it might be?

Could it be slapped cheek? More here:

Dry bed?

Showy · 01/03/2015 09:31

Could be anything. Allergy, viral rash, bacterial rash.

DS is the master of rashes and I've never managed to work out wtf it is without a pharmacist/gp. He had scarlet fever which started on his neck and cheeks and was a raised, sandpapery rash. Slapped cheek was more blotchy. HFM was blister like. Viral rashes are just vague, non-specific. He has also had urticaria with hive type rashes.

If he's well in himself, that's a good sign. Grin

I'll see how he is in the morning I guess and give the GP a shout if necessary

My DD had slapped cheek and looked exactly like this, though she also had a viral rash over most parts of her body.

She too was well in herself, only having a mild temperature.

ImperialBlether · 01/03/2015 21:06

No idea, sorry, but he is very, very cute.

BuzzardBird · 01/03/2015 21:08

Scarlet fever is doing the rounds as well as slapped cheek. I believe Scarlet Fever feels rough to the touch.

MiloCat · 01/03/2015 21:29

I was going to say scarlet fever too. The rash looks rough and I believe that the sf rash is described to be like sandpaper.

Look in his mouth. When dd had it, her tongue had a white coating on and strawberry spots. Her mouth was sore.

BuzzardBird · 01/03/2015 21:44

Oh yes Milo, I have forgotten that. Strawberry tongue isn't it?

Icicleinmyhand · 01/03/2015 21:54

Looks bumpy - scarlet fever? IIRC slapped cheek is smooth.

I'm not a dr but I'd put money on scaler fever, looks identical to rash we all had with that.

Easily,treated nowadays with penicillin.
