So DD is awaiting an appointment with paediatric dermatology for her terrible eczema. Whilst we're waiting for it I was hoping for some advice!

We've had two rounds of steroid cream which haven't helped. We're on to our third different cream, none of which seem to have helped. We're using personal non-bio. Have been putting oatmeal in her bath. I've tried to severely limit my dairy intake as she is bf. She's 5.5months.

What else can we try? She's terribly itchy and it wakes her in the night. The past two nights we've had to give ibuprofen to calm her down enough to sleep! The skin on her face is flaking away now :(

Have you tried Piriton at night to help her sleep? DS started with eczema at five months and we got this from our dermatologist. Stops them scratching too.

Which steroids were you using? Have you got emollients as well? What are you bathing her with? Use emollients and steroids separately, do not use them at the same time as the emollients dilute the steroids. It's also better to have a strong steroid and use it for a shorter amount of time.

If she's got flaky skin you need to moisturise moisturise moisturise, as often as you can. Don't use bath products. We only have oilatum for the bath and wash with Aqueous.

DS does have a dairy allergy, but they can also be allergic to soya and goats milk as the proteins are similar.

Also, don't put your hand in a tub if cream. Spoon some out and use it so you don't contaminate the pot.

It's a stressful time, you have my sympathy.

I will ask about piriton thank you!

We've had two different steroids can't remember name off the top of my head! We're using doublebase now but have had hydromol and cetraben too.

We've got oilatum for her bath and it's all we're using.

I'm trying to moisturise like crazy but I don't think the dribble is helping!

Will try the spoon in the tub of cream trick!

My DS had this, his skin is now much better.

We used a steroid cream on most affected areas in the morning, Doublebase cream all over each time he was changed & Hydromol cream all over after bath times. We would then put more steroid cream on before bed. We tried Oilatum for the bath which we found didn't help & also used Aveeno cream for a while which helped a bit.

We also use ASDA Little Angels Non Bio which I found to be much better than the Persil. Fairy non bio is also good.

It is a lot of creams (all available on prescription) but we stuck with it for a few months & now my DS only has a little Doublebase or Hydromol if his skin looks a bit dry (very rarely) & his skin looks amazing now, so it does pay off!

How long did you use the steroids for? We found it was quite a few weeks before we weaned them off entirely. The dermatologist also gave is different ones for different areas and strengths.
