Dd keeps wetting herself when laughing

Dd keeps wetting herself when she is laughing. It's not just a dribble it needs a clothes change each time. She was on prophylactic antibiotics for previous urine infections, but stopped these in September as all her tests came back ok. She hasent got an infection at the minute. The wetting herself has been happening for around 2 weeks and it is everyday. Any ideas what could be causing this?

How old is she? Dd had a friend who did that until she was 8 or 9. Her mom said she was the same when she was a child. In both their cases it was just weak bladder muscles that they grew out of (it got better at puberty). The most important thing is to not make her feel bad about it.

She is 5. Can the bladder just weaken all of a sudden cos this is a new thing, it's only been happening the last 2 weeks? I have got a gp appt but it is in a week :(

Yes, I have seen it happen. There may have been some inflammation from the previous urine infections and it's still there even though the infection is gone. My dd had that happen at that age.

Thanks. She is quite embarrassed about it as it is happening at school, she doesn't want to go back after half term incase it happens, not like her at all.

My dd's friend wet herself once at a sleepover birthday party at age 8 or 9 in front of all the other girls and I quickly got dd to tell one of her wetting herself at school stories (in the main office while talking to the school secretary) and then all the other girls started telling their own stories and next thing you know every girl there had a similar tale and they were all laughing and giggling over their shared secret and that first child never felt bad about it again.

Are u absolutely sure it's urine?

I had this all through my childhood and it was water coming from my uterus. It always happened when I laughed. And it was totally unstoppable once started. Apparently I discovered in late teenager hood I had a kink in my vagina, so bath water would get trapped and when I laughed the muscle would tense and release water. In my case regular sex sorted it out (I was a grown up tho). I am sure there would be other solutions for your dd x

I am pretty sure it's urine as it smells . She is also wetting herself when on the trampoline now as well and yesterday spiked herself twice , it's very strange. She has been toilet trained for 2 years and this is all of a sudden.

I have done a bit of reading for you.

So are you sure it's not constipation as this can cause incontinence?

Keep a record of every accident and poo.

Put no bubble bath in bath. Use unscented loo paper.

It could be an infection of her urethra. I don't know how they check for this.

Could it be cystitis? Give her lots of cranberry juice.

Did she go to school this week? How did she get on?

I would try not to make a big deal of it. Just change her quickly. Could you put her in pull ups so she relaxes more?

Just some ideas...

Another thing... Did something happen two weeks ago that made her sad or embarrased? That could have triggers it. Maybe a gentle chat?

Mummytogoldie · 28/02/2015 16:35

She is already on movicol for constipation which is well controlled so I am hoping the soiling was just a one off. I can't think of anything that happened but will definitely have a chat with her. It does seem to be when she laughs or is active so I def think something to do with the muscles. She has a doctors appt on Tuesday so hopefully they might shed some light x
