Dried blood / thick wax in ears

DD has been suffering with her ears since December.
I took her to the doctors twice both doctors said viral until on Boxing Day I took her to the OOH and turns out she had a terrible ear infection

The problem is now she has a thick black crust covering her inner ear, I took her back to the doctors 3 weeks ago and he said it's dried blood/thick black dried wax and have me some drops to loosen it all up

It's not done anything, her ears are still blocked up, and she's really struggling, she keeps rubbing her ears, poor girl probably can't even hear me properly

I'm going to book her an appointment for next week again but not sure what they can do to get rid of all this dried gunk

Can anyone suggest anything I can get to help?

I ended up get my dds ears micro-suctioned!

Was £40 and saved all that ear drop hassle.

Sounds like at some point her ear drum may have burst to have all that dried blood in it Sad

She is only 2.1yo would they do it with her being so young?

It's in both ears, she has really suffered with this, she's not eaten properly since December

I would find somewhere localish that does it and phone them up. It's a very gentle procedure my dd said it tickled and one of hers was completely blocked - got a rock hard solid cone shaped lump out!

Found one local to me, I've just called and spoke with them but they said they wouldn't do it on a 2 year old, only for age 6 plus
but he did say I can find a private ENT so il keep looking

I know that it used to be recommended to put warm olive oil in the ears twice a day for at least 2 weeks prior to ear syringing, so the wax would be soft and easily washed away by the water. You would have to try and get your daughter to lie on her side for about 20 mins to let the oil penetrate though and no cotton wool because it just absorbs it. Might be difficult with a 2 yr old though!

The drops she was given 3 weeks ago were olive oil drops, I've been warming it up and putting it in her ears whilst she's asleep, then go in again half an hour later to do the other ear, it's just not shifting Hmm

That's why I gave in and paid for the micro-suction!!

I'm sure an ENT specialist will do it for you but it will be more expensive.

After I had flu my ears were blocked like this. I had to put warm ear drops in for a week I think them go back to have the nurse at the GPs surgery syringe them. Maybe see if anything similar at your GPs?

Feel sorry for your daughter though it is a horrible thing to go through.

My daughter had very waxy ears affecting her hearing and we were referred to ent where they vacuumed them out, I'd ask for a referral if I was you.

Thank you, I've found the number for local ENT, but they're closed today.

I will wait for the GP appointment, maybe they will refer her.

I feel so bad for dd it's been going on for months now.
