I can't keep the temp down, she's had the full dose of paracetamol and ibuprofen. It's not raging, but hotter than she should be. She's feeling really pants, and just wanted to sleep. Problem is, I don't know how long she's been like this, she came home from her dads Tues afternoon, white, shivering, burning up, asked hard vomited twice- still in a vomit stained t-shirt ffs. Neither he or his girlfriend have given any straight answers about it, they day she only became ill ten minutes before leaving, which is bollocks when going by what the other two dc say. Xh has form for neglect and abuse, his gf no better.

Wwyd, keep an eye and see what happens over the weekend, or head to the children's clinic tomorrow am? Dc with fil Friday while I work, dd2 will be fine with him, but will be a lot harder to get her to gp Fri, and out of hours here is a joke. I'd be happy if I knew how long she'd had the temp, tbh. She's 7 next week.

I'd take her to get checked over if the temp hasn't been brought down, within her 24 hours with you. I'm no nurse though, but it's what I'd do as a concerned parent. I'd also give NHS Direct a call for advice, that way you can at least speak to a nurse tonight for advice. Hope your DD feels better soon.

When did she have the meds? What else have you done to cool her down? Stripped off a bit and in loose, cotton clothing? No duvets? Is she drinking? Any air circulating in the room?

Has she any symptoms like a sore throat or ear pain? Breathing okay? Rousability okay?

Does the medication make her comfortable at all or is it having no effect?

It's so hard to know when your xh is not giving you the information you need. Do you have a gut instinct about it? In normal situations I'd say watch overnight and GP in the morning if no better but you just don't know how long it's gone on for which is a really important factor in assessing their need to see somebody.

The pain at the base of the skull could very well be glands. DD has sometimes felt pain when ill due to the glands at the back, base of the skull being inflamed.

Last ibuprofen at 5 pm, paracetamol at 10 pm. Will do more ibuprofen when she next has me up. She's asleep ATM, thin duvet, very hot child. She's pulling up the duvet and complaining of bring cold, but she always likes it up around her ears, it's a comfort thing for her. Breathing noisy, not rattley, but snuffley. Bit faster than usual. Throat is sore, off her food (most unlike her!) and she just wants to sleep. Asked for bed at 6.30 tonight. Head/neck pain since I picked her up. That aspect is worrying me. She's the most robust of the three, and it's not often ill. Meds are bring some relief, some being the operative. They're taking the edge off.

Actually, the more I post, the more I know to stick with my gut instinct.

Gp first thing

It sounds a lot like the virus that's doing the rounds. They start off pale, complain of a headache, and are then sick. Then the tiredness and the shivers start alongside the temperature.

I would still phone for advice though as you can't be sure of your ex telling the truth about what's been happening so far.

I hope your dd feels better soon. Flowers

inflagrantedelicto · 19/02/2015 07:26

Thanks, coppertop, I hadn't come across that virus, all the kids locally are still recovering from that coughing one (I work in a pharmacy, so hear all the parents accounts as they buy Calpol Wink)

I think I will take her down to the children's walk in, my surgery prefer that than telephone appointments for kids. Although its over a year since I last used it, so who knows!

I think its the base of skull/back of neck pain that worries me, and that I can't quite get that temp under control, although she's had a better night last night. Typically they always perk up as you decide it's time for a doctor!

How is she?

If your xh has form for neglect. Should you be letting your children stay with him?

Showy · 19/02/2015 10:39

How did you get on? My 7yo dd has had exactly the same virus. Headache, sore throat, raging fever, vomiting and pain in neck/base of skull. She is absolutely fine now. Just a virus with gland pain. In the midst of it she slept and slept and slept. Her brother on the other hand has the same virus but has developed secondary tonsillitis and his ear drum has perforated. A check of ears, throat and chest, possibly urine and abdomen too is a good idea if your spidey senses are tingling.

mandmsmummy · 19/02/2015 20:45

Both myself and DS1(8) have had a headache bug. Awful headache, nausea, neck ache, plus he's resulted in a cold making his bridge of his nose hurt. It's really getting us down, feel grotty x

inflagrantedelicto · 21/02/2015 21:38

Butterfly, I have no choice, there's a court order in place, all bodies ignored all the evidence. I now have to wait for something to happen. Even when ss were involved briefly, the sw said they won't/can't do anything until one of my children is hurt.

I didn't take her in the end. By the morning she was obviously over the worst, she slept soundly the second half of the night, and spidey senses stopped tingling. She's still quite tired, but nearly back to normal. Took another 24h for her temp to settle. Nasty nasty virus.
