Cradle cap miracle cure

I may have happened across a miracle cradle cap cure, well it's worked for our 4 month old anyway, so maybe worth a try. Boots own cradle cap cream in the morning followed by coconut oil in the evening, an hour or so before bath. Then a bit of a soak with water and a bit of a rub with a flannel ( don't get carried away, just a gentle rub)and hey presto it mostly all comes off! Don't be tempted to keep scrubbing however tempting it is, because the hair will come out aswell if you over do it.We do a bath every other day, took 2 baths and now it's all gone and he's kept his hair. Just wanted to share that , because we have only just managed to sort out the 2yr olds cradle cap. It's harder when the hairs longer! Hope it works for you.

Thank you for this tip, I'll definitely be trying it out. I feel like I've tried loads but nothing really works and as my little one has very fine hair it always gets pulled out.

Good luck, hope it works. The alternative technique that is working on the two year old is wet hair, dentinox shampoo, leave to soak for a bit. Brush a bit with bristly hair brush, leave a bit longer, rinse scruffle head with flannel, and then scruffle head with dry towel. Bit of a slower process, it's taken weeks, but pretty much there now with minimal hair loss. But probably an easier technique for longer hair, less greasy anyway!

Letrix, just out of curiosity, has the cradle cap stayed away?

Letrix123 · 15/03/2015 19:10

No, it came back ..... And now coconut oil seems to not agree with him. So now he's scratched half of it off and I've given up! I'm just putting some really nice baby cream made by a company called "B" based in Bodmin . It's just keeping it soft and not itchy. I just give it a rub with a flannel. Back to the slow progress. Babies require so much maintainence ..... When I get some sleep I might tackle the fungal theory

Dentinox (sp) shampoo works a treat on cradle cap. Smells lovely too Smile

Try Almond oil its softer on babies , very gentle massage and leave it then gentle run with a flannel and or soft comb.

Vaseline plastered over the hair at night, and in the morning the whole thing lifts off (urgh).

The bedclothes take some washing though!

Nits cured DS's.

Ivytheterrible · 15/03/2015 20:10

My solution was to wet hair and then use a nit comb on the hair from the root it just scraped the scalp enough to lift it all off.

Ems1812 · 15/03/2015 20:15

Coconut oil was amazing on my little one's cradle cap! I used to give him a really good shampoo & then cover his head in the oil, would be virtually gone by morning!

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 15/03/2015 20:17

My tip is to use a toothbrush.

I've been using Weleda hair and body wash. I used a very soft toothbrush to rub his scalp while hairwashing and he has no cradlecap at all.

WhatWouldCaitlinDo · 21/03/2015 19:48

DC2 has awful cradle cap. The GP prescribed Nizoral and it did absolutely nothing. The coconut oil lifted off the really bad flakes, but it'll be interesting to see if it stays away. I will report back.

gaahhnonicknamesleft · 23/03/2015 21:42

I recommend a nice hat.

Honestly, nothing shifted ds1's. Eventually it dried out and I picked it off (along with his hair). He still has it aged 5, but very thick hair.

Grantaire · 23/03/2015 21:46

I just ignored it with mine after trying to shift it in the early days. Sometimes things like a precautionary nit comb or good hair wash would remove it but it always came back and usually worse. Luckily, it didn't bother them at all. DD stopped getting it as a pre-schooler and 3yo ds has just started to be free of it.

madamginger · 23/03/2015 21:53

Capasal shampoo got rid of ds2 cradle cap, its a coal tar shampoo from the chemist. It loosened it and I scraped it off with a nit comb

Wotshudwehave4T · 23/03/2015 21:58

We used olive oil from Boots. Put a bit on every day and gently rubbed it, then picked bits off. It was gone after about 3 weeks and didn't come
back

FoxInABox · 24/03/2015 10:23

I used olive oil on my DDs, left it then washed off and used a soft bristle brush. Worked a treat
