5 week old DS

My poor DS is very unsettled. Dd 1 and 3 have awful colds and now 5 week old DS is poorly too.
He's all bunged up and keeps gagging.
Does anyone know where I can buy one of those snot sucking things? Do boots sell them? Is it worth trying the small local chemist first?

Someone has said saline drops, are they from birth? I'm guessing vics vapour is a no no?

I've tried him in his cot and he won't sleep, thought I'd try and snatch a few hours whilst he was in his swing but he won't go in there either.

He keeps grunting, is that normal? My other 3DC never had colds when they were this small :(

pretty gross but we (DH mostly I have to admit) always used to suck the snot out of DS nose directly when he had a cold...needs must!

Aha, poor wee thing.

Yes, Boots sell them 'nasal aspirator' is what you're after.

Also I used saline nasal drop (spray when a little older) a few minutes in advance, to loosen things up a bit.

I think you can get a baby Olbas oil too - a few spots on a muslin under the crib sheet might help.

Try Nobu baby nasal aspirators, I've been using it for my LO and they're absolutely the best ones available, tested on my LO and several friends' babies. You can order them online here: www.nobu-baby.com/products/

Saline drops, much easier for a tiny than spray. It will really help. Poor love

Our snot sucker was from sainsburys I think. And I think the calpol saline drops can be used from birth.

The grunting is a sign he is working too hard to breathe. Can you see if he's sucking his chest in? Definitely worth a call to out of hours GP

the other thing that helped my little ones was me having a shower, with the extraction off, and baby in the room - so the steam loosens things off.

Hope he's feeling better soon.
