Help really worried that my dd has blood in urine

My dd (age 5) went the loo last night before getting in thy bath and I noticed a brown orange drop of wee on the seat. Looked in the loo and it looked clear. I have huge health anxieties so thought that I may be it could be just a bit concentrated and didn't think anymore about it. Tonight she has done the same and again it looks brown coloured but the wee in the loo looks clear. Her next wee I have collected in a pot and that looks clear too. She has a bit poorly with a hacking cough and so now I am reading that it could be a kidney disorder like IgA. Help me calm down please.

Don't panic - easier said than done though I know. Go and see your GP and have her urine dipped to see if she has a UTI as they are pretty common and easily treated with a short course of antibiotics.

My son does have a long term condition that affects his bladder and kidneys by the way and has had 40+ UTIs so it's a pet subject of mine!! His condition is congenital though - UTIs are very common in little (and not so little) girls however just because the way their bodies are built can allow bacteria into the urethra. Get get wee checked and keep an eye for additional uti symptoms like a temp and back ache.

Thanks probably. I will take a urine sample to the nurse on the morning. Can I ask have you ever seen blood in wee and if so what colour?

No problem - hope a visit to the Dr's helps to out your mind at rest. In my experience blood in urine makes it a darker colour than usual so more orange than yellow.

Are you sure that the drip hasn't collected a trace of poo, this quite often happens- wee runs down to the bum area then drips off. Voila- poo stained drip

My dd had blood in urine last week. Took her to gp immediately (don't hang around with potential uti, they can get nasty) gave her antibiotics and sent urine off to lab. Results came back as definitely a uti but showed infection was sensitive to a different antibiotic, so now on a week long course of different antibiotic. Once on correct antibiotics, she started to improve quickly but as always it is important to finish the course.

I got a shock when I saw the blood as well. If uti they are usually quickly treated with appropriate antibiotic.

Thanks everyone. Popped a sample up to drs this morning and will call them later. Inspace do you know I did wonder if it could be poo but couldn't work out if this could happen! I will let you all know.

yep- they don't wipe particularly well, they sit on the loo or potty with their bum quite far down, some wee runs down to the bum area, sits there a minute then drips off when they get up. Smile
