Temperature and won't stand up

Hi all,
Dd is just 2, she's been really off colour today, very tired and slept a lot.

When I got her to stand up to put her coat on to get DS from school she couldn't stand up and was whimpering, her legs were shaking

Since coming back from the school run she has taken a couple of wobbly steps, and is now back asleep.

I've got a doctors appt for her at 5pm

I feel sick with worry, not that she's under the weather as there is a lot going round but the fact she can't put weight on her legs

Poor thing. She may just be feeling achy from whatever virus she's got, but you're definitely doing the right thing getting her seen today. Did it seem to be hurting anywhere in particular when she stood?

lollipoppi · 28/01/2015 16:20

I hope it's just that she is aching.

She's not eaten on drank anything at all today so she's probably feeling a bit week too.

She was kind of stood on her toes and clung onto the sofa, her legs were shaking and she was just whimpering

Take it you have given child paracetamol or ibuprofen to bring the temperature down

lollipoppi · 28/01/2015 16:25

Yes she's had calpol, her temp at the moment is 38.7

You must get fluids into her, will she take anything? Ice lolly, jelly anything?

DragonsDoHiccup · 28/01/2015 16:30

Sounds like what dd1 has. She spent last Friday just curled up on the sofa mostly sleeping and had to be carried to the dinner table - temp of 40 and she's 3.

She was much improved after 24/48 hours but still has a fever of 38 today after a morning at preschool
And a nice cough.

It's just a cold/cough but it hit her hard Hmm

DragonsDoHiccup · 28/01/2015 16:32

Dd1 still breastfeeds though, so I didn't restrict her like I normally do (trying to wean her) so at least I knew she had fluids.

You need to get fluids in her

MrsKCastle · 28/01/2015 16:33

Is it just you at home atm? I don't want to worry you, but it may be worth preparing in case the GP refers her on to A&E- plenty of snacks and entertainment etc.

My DD experienced something similar as a toddler, it turned out to be a joint infection and they were very thorough with tests etc.

But fingers crossed she is just worn out and feeling poorly.

BuzzardBird · 28/01/2015 16:33

Do you have ibuprofen? It is better for reducing temperature. It is a horrible virus doing the rounds. :(

lollipoppi · 28/01/2015 16:39

Yes it is, although my auntie has just popped round to sit with DS whilst I take her to the doctors.
If all is well I will pick up some ibuprofen at the chemist aswell.

I've tried my best with fluids but she just won't take it, il see what the doctors suggests

How is she?

MrsBradleyCooper · 28/01/2015 19:09

My 6 yo DS has this at the moment too. He has been ill with a flu type bug since Friday but this morning said he couldn't walk. Also standing on toes and hobbling about hanging onto furniture. I took him to GP but of course it had gone away by then. He put it down to just one of those things but to go back if it happens again. It's back now of course (typical) so back to GP tomorrow I think. He also has a temp which has been on and off. So worrying. Hope your DD Is better soon.

lollipoppi · 28/01/2015 19:18

She is ok, she has a virus

He observed her walking, and although a bit wobbly she was much better then earlier in the day

He checked her ears and she has a lot of dried blood/wax from an infection she had a few weeks back so ear drops for that

She still has a temp, but has had some fluids and a little nibble of toast and is now fast asleep
