DD9 itchy sore vulva and anus

My dd9 sporadically suffers from a very itchy/sore anus and vagina.

I have treated her for worms but haven't seen any. It seems to happen every month or so. She washes regularly and wears clean cotton pants etc.

I don't think she has thrush as she says there's no discharge. I have made appointments at the go surgery before and seen a practice nurse, but by the time the appointment comes the soreness has stopped and I've not got much further than them telling me to make sure she washes properly etc. Google says not to apply thrush cream if it's not thrush. I'm about to try natural yogurt today out of desperation!

Has anyone experienced this? She is very tall, has quite developed breasts and a womanly figure already. Could this be connected to on-coming periods?

Any advice gratefully fully received.

I don't have much to add but following - DD1 who's 7 is still up (normally sleep by 8) with a very sore and itchy bottom. She gets it every 3 months or so and it tends to last 3-5 nights. We treat for worms every time but I've never seem one, and DD2 (age 6) has her hands in her mouth constantly and is much worse at hand washing etc never seems to get it. All we do is let her stay up until she's so exhausted she can sleep, and obviously she gets more knackered over the nights so everyone gets more fraught. She wakes a few times through the night too it's awful.

Was wondering if the doctor would test a poo sample for worms if I asked them? Only as there's no sign of them, and if it's something other than worms there might be something else we can do for her. ATM we give her a bath, some calpol and put some cream (either emollient or germolene) on her anus, none of which seems to actually help Sad It's happened twice while we've been on holiday which has been utterly miserable as it makes her and us so tired.

Natural yoghurt isn't a desperate measure, it's honestly a very effective cure for thrush and well worth trying, ime.

Make sure you're using a non bio washing powder. Some can trigger a reaction. Agree with the natural yoghurt. It can't do any harm.

I had similar problems with my DD but we stopped using soap to wash her girls bits and it seems to have stopped since then.

I suffered with this throughout my childhood and once I started my periods it got even worse because I had almost constant thrush as well, so it became a viscous cycle of steriods for the non thrush itching which made the thrush worse and thrush treatments that made the other itching worse. Interestingly I had a very itchy and temperamental/ sensitive scalp as well. In my twenties I found two products australian bodycare tea tree wash (others don't work as they are not as pure and this brand is a specific type of tea tree oil) and salcura topida both of which really helped the intimate itching a lot (the topida does sting / burn initially, because the skin is broken and sore, but once the stinging has gone the itching stops- c. 30secs.as the skin starts to heal the stinging burn sensations are less anyway). When I was pregnant with my first I was diagnosed with coeliac disease (partly because I developed a very itchy skin condition called dermatitis herpetiformis alongside bowel issues). Since then I have had to eat a completely gluten free diet. Touchwood I have never had thrush or the intimate itching since, although my scalp still plays up from time to time. I'm not sure if the gluten free part is coincidence or not though. I still use the australian bodycare tea tree wash to this day, as if I don't I get itchy legs so I know it does help alleviate itching. Sorry it's a bit waffly but hopefully some of it may be worth consideration?!

Have you repeated the worm meds? Only it could be that it recurs when the remaining eggs are hatching

It sounds very much like worms

Is she sensitive to bubble bath or the washing power?

We can't use Matey, or biological powders with my eldest DD, for this exact reason.

Thanks everyone for the replies.

I tried the natural yogurt and it's seemed to work for now. No soreness for a few days. So I may continue with that fairly regularly.

She doesn't use any soaps as she has psoriasis. I had wondered if it was psoriasis actually as she does suffer from it inside her ears. She has psoriasis on her scalp too.

I've noticed she has a dusting of pubic hair now which is fairly recent so don't know if somehow all these changes are adding to irritation.

I will treat after 2 weeks again for worms just incase.

Thanks again x

Hi, I know it's been a few years but just wondered how your DD got on? Did her symptoms subside? My DD9 is going through exactly the same thing. It's not thrush or worms or a UTI. The doctor says it's lack of oestrogen. But the poor thing has constant itching and burning now.
