Diarrhoea for 11 days. Help

D's who is 3 has had diarrhoea since Xmas eve. She has about 8 or 9 loose stools a day (some very small) but is in pain when she goes and has lots of wind.

She's been to the dr's twice and we've had the usual advice but I'm concerned it's showing no sign of improvement after this length of time. We did a stool sample about 5 days ago but the results aren't available until Monday and if it's a virus won't show up anyway.

We are trying to give her very plain food, no dairy, making her drink Dioralyte but nothing is making any difference. I have been up with her 4 times since 2.30am.

Has anyone got any ideas please? Everything I read says up to 10 days is normal for a bug but we're past that now.

It's unlikely to be Crohn's disease which normally presents as a young adult (although it can occur in children).

I found this, but ordinarily would never read the Daily Mail...

www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2397789/Misery-mums-warned-Toddler-Diarrhoea-months-years--cause-unknown.html

Hope it's maybe reassuring and useful.

Interesting read! Not something I've ever heard of.
Also interesting are the things he recommends eliminating - almost the diametric opposite of the normal eliminations! But he does say that allergy and coeliac testing are usually done to rule those out before Toddler Diarrhoea is diagnosed; and also that it's usually painless.
Well there you go Echo - another piece in the puzzle!

Yes it's interesting (although a bit worrying in a way!).
Dd has been in quite a lot of pain. I think it's slowly improving. Only 5 poos today and 3 of them were much more normal looking...(total TMI alert)

Sounds like it might be the beginning of the end? Fingers crossed anyway. x
