My 11 year old son has severe Eczema behind his knees, elbows, arms and neck. It really nastily flares up in Winter & only goes away during July/August time for about 2 months.

I have made him 100% cotton night clothes, duver and mattress covers for nighttime but it doesnt seem to be helping as much as i wanted. Can anyone help?

I also now need to buy him a new duvet. After researching in to it I am more clueless than ever. What kind of filling it should have... what the outer casing should be made of, 100% silk, 100% cotton, egyptian cotton? does it matter? Is one better than the other?

Can anyone suggest anything that has worked for them? what to look out for?

My DD has similas Eczema flare ups and she recently tested for dust mite allergy, we were recommended to buy the anti allergy mattress, duvet and pillow covers. How these compare to the covers you have made I don't know, we have been using these for 2 months , her Eczema is better but we were also prescribed a higher dose steroid cream, along with this we moisturise everyday, and now she only has showers with an emollient.

Hi,
my son also had eczema as a baby (gone years ago) and now has dust mite allergy he has rhinitis (nose inflammation).

These things have helped;
buy a new mattress, duvet, pillow, (microfibre duvet)
and cover these with dust mite covers from ACP solutions i got the full encasement astex pristine ones. wash bedding every two weeks (sheets, covers) and tumble dry. tumble drying will kill the dust mites.

the pristine covers need to be washed too so mark on your calendar.

remove carpet from bedroom replace with lino/wood.

remove curtains and put roller blind. mop the room once a week and then vacuum

open windows of bedroom for three hours.

air the duvet in good weather,

its all to do with the mattress which has dust mites, so replace mattress every 4-6 months.

i know it will cost but you have to do these things with severe allergies.
