Glandular fever getting worse Dd 4yo

Two weeks ago dd started complaining of a sore throat and tummy ache. I couldn't see anything that made me concerned so increased her fluids and carried on. Monday last week after more upset from her I checked and her throat and it was clearly not ok, red small spots on the pallet and puss like areas too. Following advice from the pharmacist I took her to the gps. Gp certain it was glandular fever but didn't want to perform blood test on dd as she 'doesn't like to do them on little ones', But to bring her back in if she worsened and she would. I didn't pursue for one as felt I should trust gps diagnosis. Whilst there gp showed/felt with me the glands in her neck, they were like little peas. Dd seemed ok, but the last 3-4 days she seems to have worsened. She goes from fever to chill quickly, is paler than normal and the pea like glands are now golf ball size, she is complaining of tummy ache more so than she has, she seems to bruising easier too( tripped in hallway yesterday racing for a nerf dart and instantly bruised). Would I be over reacting to ask for the blood test to be run? Am I right in thinking it would still be over the counter pain relief even if gf is confirmed?

I'm also wondering if it could be related to a recent run of accidents at school. Since the middle of November dd has had 6 head bump accident slips home and a visit to hospital for stitches because she has not seen something or fallen. School felt it was worth getting her eyes checked so I have an appointment booked for eyes next week. It could be nothing, but could it be related to whatever (I say that, as it's only an opinion) is making her ill now?

Not often I get a panicky gut feeling about something not being right with dd, and I don't want to over react given the time of year. Apologies for the length of my post.

Mummy I'm sorry I didn't see your post, how is your dd now?

It's awful when they are ill and you don't know what to do to help. Sorry your both going through this.

My dd is back on referral to the peads again. It wasn't our regular Gp, so dd wouldn't let him check her, but he could see the lymph node was big again, and read her notes etc so just referred her back. He suggested post viral fatigue but would let the peads decide.

I'm sorry I can't be more helpful, but keep posting , talking got me through the worry,

She has perked up a bit has started eating bits and is able to play for a bit but then needs to rest for a couple of hours . Temp had settled during the day but still going up at night. Spleen is still swollen and still got hepatitis in the liver, we are going for more bloods this week to check levels in the liver. How did your dd cope going back to school runway?

Honestly Hmm not well. To start with school were really good and she went back on half days and they were accepting when she was too ill to come in. Now they aren't patient about it at all. Initially she was glad to go back but now I think she is exhausted, and doesn't like that she had to go in. I feel awful, but there are days when we send her in despite her being unwell . I always let the teacher or ta know if she is having an off day and it is met with rolled eyes. She is back in hospital twice next month to see the peads and the cardiologist and i know they'll moan that she is missing school again. To top it off there is chicken pox and scarlet fever in her class at the mo so she'll probably be ill again, her temp is up tonight as are the glands in her neck and groin.

Very pleased to hear your dd is feeling a little better. Seeing them eat even the tiniest amount always makes me feel happy. Big unmusnety hugs for you Thanks

Spoke to dd head teacher today who has been really supportive, her best friend had glandular fever as an adult and she said was ill with it, so can't imagine what it would be like for a child. She is not going back before the Easter break and we will review after. Dd is having terrible night sweats at the minute and has a tongue covered in ulcers. She is back at the doctors tomorrow as she has had yellow discharge from her bits and bobs, prob not connected to the glandular fever or liver but best to get it checked i think. Hope your dd is feeling a bit better again soon and her school start to be a bit more understanding xx

Very lovely to hear that dd is home and school are being supportive. I hope she makes a very speedy recovery and able to enjoy the holidays.

Dd is good at the moment and it's lovely, I'm hoping it continues Grin
