Very bad cut to DS's leg, what's the best thing to do ?

My 12 year old DS has very badly cut his leg, it happened earlier today when he was coming back into the house along with some of his friends, they jumped over the garden wall to get into the front garden and as my DS did it he caught his leg on a sharp piece of the wall, this has resulted in a deep cut which goes from the top of his thigh to halfway up his left buttock. It has been bleeding an awful lot and it is very painful. Should I take him to the hospital, try and get a doctor to him ? What should I do ?

Sure you spend a few minutes deciding and deliberating but almost all day? Sorry that's poor.

Sorry but I agree with Lucky. People would complain if you left a dog half the day with a nasty injury, this is a child. You should have gone straight to a and e. People make mistakes though, so Flowers

Why are they keeping him in?

Why did they keep him in?

PacificDogwood · 16/12/2014 20:45

Oh good, he's being looked after.

Will he need a general anaesthetic?
Hope he's ok Thanks

How come he has to stay in ? Stitches don't usually mean an overnight stay especially when hospitals are so stretched.

ElaineFromLondon · 17/12/2014 18:51

He was kept overnight because of the fact that the stitches were going from his thigh to his bottom and apparently there was a risk of them being undone/broken if he tried to walk anywhere or move about.

I see this is resolved now but where a cut crosses a joint (the hip in this case) you should definitely get seen by a doctor, probably at A+E.

He may have to use crutches for a few days and take with flexing his hip too much ie. by sitting fully upright on a chair and/or bending forwards

And yes, you shouldn't really have been fannying around on here Smile

take care
