RSV

Hello,

My Nephew is currently in hospital and has been since 5th Nov. He was diagnosed with RSV and was completely kncoked out without waking up for 14 days and required oxygen because couldn't breathe alone, he slowly began to breathe on his own and came around last friday and was awake and on the road to recovery. Just two days later he deteriorated again and requires oxygen and has been asleep again since Sunday. The doctors have had lung specialists in and have now put him on antibiotics with the hope he might come round but at current its not looking as good. I was wondering if anybody had any similar stories?

Sorry to hear about your nephew, it must be a worrying time. RSV is common amongst prem babies so if you don't get any responses here, may be post in the premature section. Wishing him all the best.

So sorry to hear your nephew is so poorly. How old is he? RSV is such a horrible virus. I'll be thinking of you & especially your nephew.

DS had RSV as a baby and it developed into double pneumonia. He was nowhere near as poorly as your little nephew sounds. In his case I think the pneumonia was worse than the RSV and he bounced back relatively quickly after double dose antibiotics/fluids/special care.

I wish you all the best and hope he turns a corner very soon indeed. What a terribly worrying time.

He is 12 weeks. I think the lung specialists are trying to identify the underlying issue, they have now put him on antibiotics in the hope that it may help but this is one of the last resorts - the next being a large operation and even still that may not be successful.

I just haven't read much information or experiences about babies that have been in similar situations.
