sprained wrist quick question

DD2 has sprained her wrist, it is very swollen and blue and she has been given a splint by the hospital. Should she wear the splint to bed or not?

I was told too. I just take it off if it becomes uncomfortable - most nights it's fine, but sometimes it's unbearably uncomfortable.

thanks

If it eases the pain through the night then it can be left on. It's just a light support as movement will cause pain, so less movement means less pain generally. Sometimes they are uncomfortable or get too right with swelling g so can be left off.

Thanks again, she isnt taking it off at all except to wash her hand as it is too painful. It is still very swollen, is this normal?

Yes swelling is normal. This is one of the reasons wearing at night can be uncomfortable as swelling can occur if the hand is not elevated. I hope she has a high arm sling for the day which keeps the wrist at chin level. Dangling below heart level will encourage swelling. Maybe nights put the hand on a pillow to elevate it. Adjust the splint to allow for the swelling as it can also make the splint tight and uncomfortable.
