Discoloured tooth following accident

Hi, Ds slipped and smacked his mouth quite badly last week. His front teeth cut his bottom lip. His lip has now healed but one of his teeth looks a bit discoloured to me. Has anyone had experience of this? I am worried he will lose his tooth as he is only 2 and a half :( I have booked him in the dentist for tue but was just hoping for reassurance in the meantime

This happened to my dd about the same age (a long time ago!) and the tooth gradually went black - then gradually went white again, took a while if I remember.

This happens to me as a child and it still yellowed. If you can fix it please do, it really stops me smiling :(

its only a baby tooth so even if it remains discoloured it will be lost in a couple of years anyway

Thanks for your reply, I was worried that he would lose the tooth, hopefully it will just get better on it's own then.

Ds's did this, went completely grey. Now 5 months later it's nearly back to normal.

This happened to my DS who's 6. Both his top front teeth started discoloured then gradually turned black within a week or two :-(

took him to the dentist who said they won't change back as the teeth were 'dead' but they would fall out naturally in time.

Both the black ones are now wobbly so hopefully not too much longer to wait!

that's probably bruising (i.e. blood pooling shimmering through). it might go away or fade.

This happened to DS aged 4 and it went grey but didn't cause him any pain (after the initial bad bump) but when he was about 6 we noticed a small abscess above the tooth so dentist removed the tooth. His adult tooth came through completely normal.

Exactly the same thing happened my 2.5yo DD a month ago. Noticed it discolouring gradually (she'd had a bad fall at CM & cut her lower lip, but we didn't realise her top L tooth had been affected at the time). Watched for 2/52..no pain. No-one noticed till i pointed it out, but then could see the discolouration. Took her to dentist. Root is dead (badly discoloured at the back). V slightly wobbly. Dentist not worried, says she's too young for her second to be affected. At the time she said it could all go grey, but was unlikely to fall out as not wobbly enough. She also said it has a slightly increased chance of becoming infected & advised me what to look out for (basically an abcess on the gum). There is no way of reversing the damage. We've been back since for a routine app. The tooth hasn't greyed any more, so probably won't. Has stabilised, so even less likely to fall out. Honestly; I was gutted at the time, but now I hardly notice it. Really hope your DS's tooth is ok.

My dd fell over when she was 2ish and her front tooth went black. It fell out when she was about 5 and her adult tooth is lovely and white and hasn't been affected at all.
