4 month old not poo'd for 2 weeks

Wondering whether to take my daughter to see the GP.
She's 17 weeks and exclusively breastfed. In the early days she poo'd after every feed then it slowed down then after her 8 weeks she didn't poo for 10 days and that has been her pattern.
She has plenty of wet nappies, her tummy is soft and she doesn't seem to be in any discomfort.
She does really stinky pumps and they leave a wee smear of poo on her bottom.
I massage her tummy and cycle her legs daily.
I know I should be happy not having to change lots of dirty nappies but just worried something is wrong?

Most likely nothing wrong-bf is very efficient so there is little waste. I would go to gp for your peace of mind though!

HeyMacWey · 17/10/2014 06:57

I'd give your gp a call and see what they say. As she's bf it may be that there's no waste to poo out but worth getting her checked out for peace of mind.

differentnameforthis · 17/10/2014 07:17

Regardless of how she is fed, not pooing for 2 weeks is not normal for a baby.

GP asap.

Bunbaker · 17/10/2014 07:20

Yes, GP today.

Haggisfish · 17/10/2014 07:36

My bf babies often went ten days without poohing, between three and six months old.

MsBug · 17/10/2014 07:50

Dd's record was ten days, and the resulting poosplosion was an impressive sight.

It's probably fine but go to the gp just to make sure

ohcluttergotme · 18/10/2014 09:52

Got her a GP appointment yesterday who has given her some lactulose, she's had 2 doses and still no poo and I've to take her back in a week if still no poo!
I'm scared of the poonami that must be due!

lactulose will take at least a day to work, normally two in my experience. Crossing fingers for a poonami soon for you!

hollie84 · 18/10/2014 13:22

Two weeks can be normal in a breastfed baby differentname.

There was once a mums net thread about a baby who finally pooed on day 20!

concernedaboutheboy · 18/10/2014 13:45

BF babies of that age can go for ages and ages without pooing. It can be prefectly normal. And then.......poonami!

callamia · 18/10/2014 13:53

Ten days wasn't unusual for us either. It was annoying for DS I think, sometimes he seems uncomfortable, but all the leg cycling and tummy massage in the world did nothing. I did once give him some prune juice on a teaspoon, but I don't think that did anything either. He grew out if it, and when he started eating solid food starting going about once a day.

Lulabellarama · 18/10/2014 14:02

DS2 once went for well over 3 weeks without pooing. It wasn't even THAT impressive when he did finally go.
I wouldn't worry at all.

Bunbaker · 18/10/2014 15:36

DD was breast fed and pood after every feed.

Longdistance · 18/10/2014 15:53

I can suggest cycling her legs to get her bowels moving.

And then...DUCK!!!!

hollie84 · 18/10/2014 18:36

Lucky you Bunbaker!

mootime · 18/10/2014 18:40

My DS was Breast fed and pooed every 7-10 days between 3-6 months. We used to give a syringe of freshly squeezed orange juice (advice from Gp to avoid suppository) and then wait in until the poo arrived.... Shock

BreakingBadWind · 18/10/2014 18:43

Dd mix fed. Pooed every six days or so. Once in hospital for something else they gave her laxitive after four days. Went all over the cot!

Ds also mix fed. Pooed about ten times a day.

mamabear35 · 18/10/2014 18:52

Perfectly normal for breastfed baby especially if she has plenty of wet nappies, has soft tummy and is happy in her self. Breast milk is brilliantly efficient so that there is very little waste to poo out. With DD2 her record was 16 days of no poo.I had taken her to the doc on day 7 and11 to be sure and when she did finaly poo on day 16 it was a normal poo. Good luck

Bunbaker · 18/10/2014 19:07

I didn't feel lucky Grin. Half the time the nappies didn't contain it.

She got well and truly bunged once she started formula though.

ohcluttergotme · 18/10/2014 20:59

Thanks for replies, it's food to hear others have had similar experiences.
She's now had 3 doses of lactulose and think something's on its way ????

Two weeks can be normal in a breastfed baby differentname.

Fair enough. I only bf one of my two & she was very regular, so I didn't realise it could be normal.

Bunbaker · 19/10/2014 10:19

Neither did I different, hence my concern.

ohcluttergotme · 19/10/2014 18:33

We've had 3 poo's today so lactulose definitely helped. ????
