9 yo DD with a pea like lump in her non existent "breast"

DD told me about this yesterday afternoon, and when I checked I can feel it beneath her skin, just beside her nipple.

I made her a doctor's apt straight away, earliest was 5pm today. I am verring between thinking that as she is only 9 and not in any way an early developer - average height and weight and no signs of puberty whatsoever - it can't be anything, and I am in fact silly to be making her miss her football training to go to the doctor (DH suggested its a lymph node as she's had a bad cold) to panicing and not being able to concentrate on the work I am meant to be doing atm!

Don't want to google as that always brings up the worst remote possibilities, so can anyone set my mind at rest? Lymph node? Early sign of brest development? (Its only on one side).

I had EXACTLY the same with DD at the same age. Made appointment as soon as I could and GP was a bit Hmm 'It's a breast bud'! As I didn't start developing until much later I hadn't even thought about that Blush Came out of the appointment feeling a mixture of relief (that it wasn't something awful), sadness (that my baby was growing up) and slight embarrassment.

DD is now 11.10, is developing at a slow, steady pace and hasn't started her periods yet.

DD's was only on one side too.

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 14/10/2014 09:34

It is likely to be a breast bud. I had one at that age but it was painful and inflamed, one sided too. Breasts do grow unevenly.

StrugglingForNewNName · 14/10/2014 09:36

It sounds like a breast bud, my DD who is 10 has exactly the same thing. Hers is on one side only as well.

neolara · 14/10/2014 09:36

That's how boobs start growing. I remember it well. My dd was very proud that she had one. A couple of months later that other one appeared.

PenelopeGarciasCrazyHair · 14/10/2014 09:38

DS actually had this too, aged about 7. GP said it was quite early to see this, but it was a breast bud - apparently boys get them too. (DS told the GP he had always been a bit of a teenager!)

Try not to worry, it sounds like that's what it is. DD is 7 and already has some small bumps, so I obviously have early developers Smile

FelixTitling · 14/10/2014 09:39

It's a breast bud. Dd's started exactly like that at age 9. First one, then the other. They can be a bit painful, so give her calpol if she needs it.

Your baby's growing up.

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 14/10/2014 09:40

Thank you feet that is exactly what I wanted to read!

I did actually tell DD it might be the start of where her breast will grow (I was a 36 C by age 11, but I was also 5 ft 6 and about 9 stone, DD is about 4 ft 5 and about 4 stone 4) - and I do remember feeling a lump myself as a pre-teen, which I rang childline about Blush Confused as I had no idea who to tell ... but I remember it as being there after they'd started growing, not when 9 and flat chested).

Will take her to the doc still I think... although now I am in 2 minds a bit, but better safe than sorry, I guess...

Oh cross posted with loads of people!

Guess I'll cancel the apt then, yay! Rather she's growing up than have something sinister! Hope she doesn't hit puberty early though, as she isn't yet tall enough to stop growing!

Sounds just like my DD a couple of years ago. Breast bud. If it makes you feel any better I asked a few friends about it as I really didn't think she would be developing already.

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 14/10/2014 09:50

:o Thank you MrsSprout and everyone!

It certainly hasn't stopped my DD growing, she seems to add an inch every time I turn round Shock

What's Happening to Me is a good age-appropriate book. Lots of clear facts about growing up/developing without all the boyfriend/relationships stuff that some of the books aimed at older children have. Probably need to get the blue version soon for my other baby Hmm

AnnieLobeseder · 14/10/2014 14:39

Everyone has already said it, but yes, it's her breasts starting to grow. My DD (9yo) has just developed them and is so proud. She is also very proud of her new wispy little armpit hairs. Smile When I got mine I thought I had cancer Sad and could never talk to my mum about anything like that, so I'm loving every minute of sharing DD's exciting journey with her!

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 14/10/2014 14:39

Funny! Feet I ordered it this morning for my almost 10 DD as this thread reminded me she might need it soon.

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 14/10/2014 19:43

Canceled Dr. and told DD what it is - she asked and then laughed at me for admitting I asked about it on an internet group for mummies... Shock but then I tried to sound more reliable and said I'd done some research GrinBlush

She says its sore but as she's just had a rotten cold with low grade fever and aches, which she took childrens ibuprofen for, we decided not to go to the medicine straight away, and she's gone to bed in a little bra top vest which she asked me to buy her a few months ago when she had a brief phase of self consciousness really because a few of her friends had them

Have ordered that book, thank you!

:) at going to bed in a bra top.
DD gets sore/tender on and off, part of the growing I assume.

feetheart · 14/10/2014 21:39

You can tell her that the internet group for mummies is full of Very Wise Women :o

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 15/10/2014 08:08

Very Wise Women indeed feet FlowersSmile
