Helmet for baby to avoid hitting head

Any ideas I can one? DS, 15 months old, falls a lot and hits his head. We are seeing a consultant on Monday to get him checked out as nursery has concerns about this and fear there may be issues with his muscles. In the meantime they want us to get him a helmet to prevent his head banging stuff ( which happens a lot) . I have googled it but the stuff that come up are big/clunky. any suggestion would be massively appreciated.

Apologies for grammatical errors and word omissions in the OP! Clearly it's any ideas where I can get one!

thudguard

OKbaby no shock hat

chicco baby helmet

I haven't ever used any of them though and some of the reviews are less than helpful.

Honestly? Unless he has a real medical problem I think this is cotton wool treatment. All todders fall and bash their heads. If the consultant thinks it's needed you'll get it in the nhs.

The only kids who have helmets I know are mobile ones with un predicable seizures.

As someone sensibly said on the " will my 3yr old damage themselves doing handstands" thread most small children appear to be made of rubber.

Just take basic precautions eg corner bumpers on coffee tables and stair gates unless he really has a problem and you will get expert advice about it.

Dare I also suggest that you can take a crumb of reassurance from the fact that he's up walking / climbing ( I assume as he's getting to bump himself) at 15 months. I would guess that most kids with significant " problems with their muscles" are sat like little puddings doing nothing at that age- as are a lot of entirely normal kids ( my 3 were variously mobile then but even the " earlier" walkers were just taking tottery steps and the late walker was 22mo!).

Excellent post by Theas18.
Succinctly says everything I was going to. Smile

I think if they are going to a consultant and the nursery has concerns the OP is probably not talking about normal toddler falls.

Thank you for all the comments all of which are fully noted esp Theas18. That has indeed been our attitude so far...he is learning to walk, get steady on his feet, growing stronger, so we just have attributed it to that...but he falls a lot. He has been described as floppy by nursery and my mother. His body gives away and he falls down and hits his head. Constantly. He loses balance constantly.

It was the nursery who raised concerns. Then my mum picked up on it as well. DH and I are still thinking he is developing, maybe slightly behind the "average" rate.

We will not use a helmet unless the consultant/GP have had their say but I just want to be prepared in case it is put forward as an option to protect his head until he grows stronger.
