GP or optician or someone else?

I know it's most likely nothing but seem sensible to get it checked out. I'm just not sure with whom.

We went to the optician and GP. It turned out DS had a squint so please don't worry. Do get it checked though.

Yes babies are supposed to be checked for congenital cataracts at birth, as part of the various checks they do, but my son's cataract wasn't picked up then, it was only when I noticed a white dot in his eye a few weeks later and went to the GP that it was diagnosed. His cataract is quite far forward in his eye so easy to spot, however some cataracts are further back in the eye so would take a doctor or optician to spot them. However it is a rare condition, only about 3/4 children born with it per 10,000 children in the UK, so like Mackerella I don't want to overly alarm people.

However as a parent you do need to set your mind at rest, and eye checks are fairly quick and painless.

The chances are, it will be nothing, but as others have said if there is an eye condition like squint/cataract/retinoblastoma, the earlier it is picked up the better.

Whoever you go to see the key thing is to ask for a red reflex test which is a key part of diagnosing retinoblastoma. Our consultant told us that had our GP have done this when we went to him in May then DS would have been diagnosed months earlier than he was.

Hope you've been checked by now and all was fine.
