Any idea what this "spot" is near dd's eye? Pic attached.

Dd had a cluster of little white spots under her eye - I think they are called milia - like the ones newborns get. They disappeared but one spot was left (which I am unsure if it's related at all to the milia).

Anyway she has this spot which was flesh coloured - a bit like a flat wart. I kept an eye on it for about a year then went to the gp as dd was complaining it is in her line of sight when reading and that other kids were commenting on it. Gp referred us to a dermatologist and that appointment is on the 9th October.

In the last week, the spot has "dried" up a bit and is now black and green and sore looking. Dd says it's sore. I'm not sure if it might fall off now. Any ideas what it could be?

I'm sorry I can't help, but if you have a Pharmacy near you, Pharmacists are brilliant at this sort of thing. They'd probably tell you what it is and how to treat it.

flanjabelle · 20/09/2014 12:36

Any chance she tried to pick it off?

ilovepowerhoop · 20/09/2014 12:38

molluscum? some sort of skin tag?

Thanks worra - I forgot to mention actually that I did ask a pharmacist some time ago and they suggested gp as none of the treatments could be used so close to the eye. Both pharmacist and gp thought it might be a wart the gp didn't seen so convinced and referred to derm.

The way it's going it might be gone before the derm appointment (typical after it being there for over a year!)

Hmmm, I suppose it's possible she's picked it but I would be surprised. She's quite squeamish and doesn't normally pick, she hates me inspecting it! I'll google molluscum!

I thought molluscum too

MrsBungle · 20/09/2014 12:46

Having googled molluscum, it could be that, although nhs website seems to suggest a number of spots whereas as this is only one and that they heal in 6-12 weeks whereas this has been there over a year. It looks like it's finally coming off now of its own accord anyway!

I know this might seem wrong but if it is protruding I might be inclined to tie cotton around it's base and cut off the blood supply and let it drop off.

My worry though is is it infected? It looks like there is pus in the photo. If it is showing signs of infection I would be at the GP asking for advice.

ilovepowerhoop · 20/09/2014 13:02

molluscum can last for months/years - both ds and dd had it. DD had loads and ds only had a few

MrsBungle · 20/09/2014 18:04

Maybe it is a molluscum then. It's green and black although very dry, there's no pus. I'll see how it goes. Thanks for the replies.

it sounds like a skin tag with the blood supply cut off - normally turns black and then will fall off

MrsBungle · 20/09/2014 20:01

She does have form for skin tags, she was born with 3 very large ones near her ear when she was born and had them removed by the plastic surgeon when she was 1. This thing definitely looks like it's dying now.

I have no advice but you might have a lot of willpower to not want to remove it yourself. It looks like it's going to fall off soon.

MrsBungle · 21/09/2014 15:05

Oh fairy, i would love to whip it off! It's stuck quite tightly though and a) dd would scream bloody murder and b) I'm a bit anxious of a scar so prominent on her face so I'm trying not to poke about it too much!
