Hello,

Just wondering if anyone has had these vaccines for their baby, and if so, where and whether there were any nasty side effects. Am struggling to find a place that will give them (I'm in London) and that's making me worried that they are unsuitable. I know the Meningitis B vaccine is not yet available on the NHS but is likely to be at some point but I think my DS will be too old by that point. I understand the chickenpox vaccine is routinely available in onther countries, just not here.

Am keen for him to have the chickenpox vaccine because i had it very badly as a child and ended up with scars all over my forehead.

Thanks.

I would have thought Meningitis B would have been a travel vaccine?? So haven't you got an exotic holiday booked?? Although check the minimum age for some travel vaccines. They declined to give our small children some before travelling to DH's home country.

Chickenpox. I'm in two minds about this. The UK has clearly taken a different tact to most of the world, and I beleive it is related to incidents of shingles later in life. I'd have to look into it further, but both of mine had CP last spring, luckily with nothing worse than a temperature and a few grotty days. I know this is not always the case, however it usually is.

I hadn't considered the shingles issue. Thanks for drawing my attention to that - I'll do some research. I've phoned a bunch of travel clinics and none of them so far vaccinate under 18s....

We go to the GP for travel vaccines? Is that not the case everywhere? They wouldn't do the under 2's, so you still might not get any joy, but it might be worth trying?
