Eye squint

My dd2 has one, aged 4. Awaiting patching etc. we had her checked when her older brother was referred and was told she had eyes of a hawk at 2 as she could detect colours among hundreds and thousands but when testing her left eye, it was clear she wasn't using it and could hardly see things close up. I'm getting really worried as she really is looking at things up close. Does patching work? She's so stubborn I'm concerned she won't want to wear them I'd she can hardly see. My brother and nephew have both had to have an op on their eyes and really don't want that or dd. can't believe she's had such a decline between age 2 to 4. Reassure me pls.

yes, patching helped my dd as it improved her sight in her left eye so it matched the sight in her other eye. She also wears glasses as she is long sighted. She had a squint and that is what caused us to go to the optician. She ended up with an op at age 4 (had glasses from 18 months old) as her squint was still obvious even with her glasses on.

I'm unclear if you mean she's reluctant to wear glasses as you say them? Or do you mean patches?

The patching will only improve the sight in the eye not the appearance of the squint.

It is so difficult , the only way to go,with patching is to be consistent and keep going.

It is e only method really to improve e vision. You can sometimes uses atriine eye drops but patching is best

Hi Millionairerow, I have a 4yr old ds who has been patching for a year now . It hasn't always been easy going but it has made a difference and my view is that even if it is a small difference then it surely must be worth a try.
One thing I will mention though is to get the school on board straight away - I am still struggling to get ds school to see that they need to look at how the patch may effect his learning and also behaviour a year down the line. I wish a year ago someone had told me to insist on a plan with SENco as I was fobbed off and made to feel like a fussy mother when I asked them to look into it a year ago and now am having to get visually impaired teacher in myself as school still dragging their heels over it! Good luck!
