DS 7 just come down with the pox. He is not itchy as yet. Plan to get some Piriton in a bit. Are there any miracle creams or gels out there that can help sooth the skin apart from Calamine.
TIA

Virasoothe is very good. Also bung some baking soda in a lukewarm bath when he gets really itchy.

thank you baking soda? Off to the baking section then!

Second virasoothe didn't bother with all the other gubbins. Piriton for the itching.

Dd was totally covered horrible scabs that looked like they would scar.

She doesn't have one scar.

Hope all better soon

I bought everything you can buy I think when dd had it! Vita soothe was ok but I think the calamine cream worked best. We tried baking soda in the bath and it didn't work at all.

Vote here for piriton with a slathering of calamine cream - not the lotion that is too dry

Chickenpox is horrid. Piriton, long baths in tepid water and calamine to follow helped ds1 a bit. He was covered in scabs from head to toe but has no scarring. Not sure why the odd scar would worry you though - it's not small pox. DS2 has a couple of scars, which are just dots - worn with pride at surviving.

Be aware that chicken pox can go into any orifice on the body - eyes, mouth, throat, ears, anus . . . though not everyone gets them internally. Ds1 had them in his mouth and throat. We found jelly and ice cream was soothing, even better if you put half grapes in the jelly when making it. The grapes were very soothing over the ones down his throat when swallowing.

Other internal spots can also be very itchy, but harder to soothe.

The spots tend to come in three waves, three days apart. Each new wave of spots tends to focus on a new area of the body - trunk, legs, head etc
Some people get it very mildly and just feel a bit unwell on the first day. For others it can be a two week battle and leave you feeling incredibly weak.

Best of luck - hopefully your ds will be one of the mild ones but sending him lots of sympathy anyway.

Thanks for all the advice. It seems quite a mild dose if it is chicken pox. Spots are not watery at all and seem no worse today.
