infected verucca on 3yr DS

My DS (3) has had a verucca on the side of his foot (not a pressure area) which has become infected and now looks rather like a pus filled boil and quite red and angry underneath...yuck!

It's looked infected for about three weeks now. In that time we were prescribed Flucloxacillin which I couldn't get into him so Dr changed it to Co-amoxiclav and Fucidin cream. Finished the weeks course end of last week and it was no better, if anything it seems to be more swollen and now extreamly tender - he wont let me touch it and wont wear his shoes at all. Luckily his sandles have a gap just in the right place.

Saw the Dr again on Monday morning and we now have some magnesium sulphate to 'draw out the pus' but Dr says the only other option if this doesn't work would to lance it which sounds pretty horrific for a child of 3 Sad

Anyone any experience of this sort of thing, especially using this paste - how long does it take, how long do I wait before I go back to the Dr??

Or got any ideas on any other alternatives or anything else I could do?

Owchy
Poor lamb. What an unusual thing to happen. Did he have a verruca treatment on it beforehand?
It does need to drain and be debrided. The pus and dead skin needs to be removed from the skin and the whole thing washed with saline. If that isn't done it will take longer to resolve but the mag sulp might just do the trick.

I think the GP has done the right thing. Lots of salt in the bath every night will help. Keep a close eye on it and don't hesitate to take him back if you are worried.

Forgot to add. Buy some sticky chiropody felt, cut a donut shape. Fill the hole with a low adherent dressing such as Melolin and put the mag sulp on the melolin. Put it over the verruca so the felt redistributes pressure away from the sore bit.
Remove daily before bath time, reapply after bath time. Reassess every day, until the pus comes out or it looks better.

Tea tree oil, dab on check if patient has a reaction to tea tree first by putting a small drop on arm and leaving for a while if ok can use, this will be very good as it is an antivirus antibacterial so will heal veruca.
