DD 9 - Vulva Pain

Can anyone shed some light on this for me please? DD woke last night from a deep sleep to say she had a sharp stabbing type of pain which seemed just on the outer lips - it has happened a few times starting when she was 8 but is getting more regular.

When I look there is no scratch, no redness, no discharge but the pain is bad enough to wake her.

I put Sudocrem on it and gave her some Calpol and she eventually fell back to sleep but have no idea what the cause is!

She is entering puberty, getting some pubic hair and budding could this cause it?

Have done some research online but although have found others suffering from it no one seems to know the cause.

Poor little mite is exhausted this morning after her sleep was interrupted so if anyone has any advice it would be appreciated, thank you.

I used to suffer from lots of urine infections as a child. I would sometimes have generalised pain down there. Might be worth a trip to the GP to rule that out and see if the can shed some light. Sorry I can't be of more help. Hope your DD feels better soon x

Threadworms! My DD sometimes wakes with this kind of pain and I know that when she does, a worm has "gone astray" into the vagina. Believe me, it is excruciatingly painful for them!

If your DD will let you, you can "remove' the worm with a cotton bud or something (sorry if gross and TMI) - the pain will instantly disappear. Obviously, also give an Ovex or similar.

Thank you both for your suggestions. Did think about urine infection - will do some research and see if the symptoms fit,

Eek! Threadworms? That didn't occur to me but will look at some information - thank you both!

Threadworms. Sorry.

I did check for threadworms after anywine suggested it could be a cause - I couldn't see anything but then she had no pain last night, also no itching and I haven't caught them and we often sleep in the same bed.

I won't rule it out, perhaps when she gets the pain again I'll take another look.

Thank you all for your suggestions Thanks
