My baby is poorly :(

13 month old DS is unwell. He hasn't kept a bottle down since yesterday afternoon. He had mashed potatoes and peas at 1pm yesterday and brought it back up about 7.

I tried with water, juice, milk. He can't keep anything down. He's been sleeping literally all morning. Unless he wakes up to be sick. When should I worry? He's never been ill really, my poor wee toot.

He needs to keep sips of water down otherwise he will become dehydrated.

I think you should ring NHS Direct for advice.

Good luck, I'm sure he'll get better quickly, but it sounds as though you need a second opinion from a professional.

Can I phone NHS24 if the doctors are open? Albeit with no appointments. They have an open surgery in the afternoon but the wait is usually 2 hours plus.

That sounded precious. I don't mind the wait but when DS is ill I don't really want him in a Waiting room for 2 hours.

If he can't keep anything down at all I'd go to a+e in case he is dehydrated.

Good luck

Try NHS 24 and see if you have any luck with them, otherwise I'd ring the GP surgery and ask them. Keep persevering with water and juice, maybe leaving out the milk in case it's irritating, but speak to a professional.

Just try teaspoons of water. No milk, no juice, no food. Have you phoned NHS Direct yet? I think you are wise not to take him to the GP if you can help it.

Phoned NHS24, just waiting on a call back. Thanks ladies.

Hope he perks up! Stomach bugs are usually a minor illness (although very unpleasant for all concerned) but the dehydration is the concerning thing. Take care.

Dioralyte can make a huge difference at that age, just getting a bit into them will really help them perk up. You generally end up syringing it into their cheeks a few tiny mls at a time so it trickles down their throat (it's not a nice taste and most little ones won't drink it by choice) but it really does help them.

MrsRaegan · 08/09/2014 17:31

Dioralyte!!

What an invention, it's like I have a different baby. He's gone from lethargic, inconsolable and pretty poorly... to a happy albeit still pretty tired and clingy boy.

Glad he's feeling better. It can be a nightmare getting it in them, but it does work wonders.

MrsRaegan · 08/09/2014 18:20

Do you know something he took it no bother. I think he was so thirsty by that point he would have drank anything. X
