Tummy pain and night nausea in 10 year old girl

clare21 · 12/08/2014 20:41

In despair here as embarking on 4th night of DD nightly problem. At supper time she complains of very bad tummy ache, which makes her cry, bath doesn't really help so giving paracetamol as calpol makes her sick. Gets in a real state, very sore, agitated. I thought early onset of periods as has some pubic and under arm hair etc but it is much better in daytime. Morning and evening appetite zero. Any tips please as at wits end. I sit with her til she goes to sleep. She is normally v healthy, v good sleeper, takes bags of exercise - though not so much this last week.

Could it be trapped wind?

CatsCantTwerk · 12/08/2014 20:44

Is she constipated?

mummy1973 · 12/08/2014 20:50

I thought constipation too.

Gileswithachainsaw · 12/08/2014 20:53

Is it worse when she eats?

clare21 · 12/08/2014 20:54

She is pooing ok. And ate lunch today plus slice of cake in afternoon. All started tonight with supper - which she couldn't eat. Asked for veg and rice then started crying so I took food away and put her in bath. Her tummy doesn't feel tight / hard like it does with constipation. I will start a secret poo chart.

when did she last poo?
sounds digestive - trapped wind and/or constipation. can make you feel really rotten.

clare21 · 12/08/2014 20:55

What's trapped wind?

Perhaps we do go down the constipation route, my dad has some of that syrupy laxative and we could try that.

Could be anxiety giving her abdominal migraines, could be an ovarian cyst issue - depite what the drs say they are very common as puberty starts to kick off but the don't always cause a problem.

clare21 · 12/08/2014 21:07

Thanks v much for all of the replies. I have had migraines first triggered by pregnancy then skipping lunch. She is v fretful with them. Sounds like trip to Dr.

i wouldn't give her a laxative if she has done a poo. keep an eye on it, will she eat a pear and some apricots, if not an apple, strawberries plus lots of water etc?
trapped wind is gas, it will eventually come out with a loud fart! my dd can feel quite ill and then later or even days later let out a sound you wouldn't think possible for a human but feel much better after it.

RandomMess · 12/08/2014 21:10

How were things at school at the end of term? Is there anything else going on that she could be worried about?

It's a really tough one. I get awful stress related tummy craps, was taken into hospital with them once as they were insistant it could be an ectopic pregnancy Confused

Consider grumbling appendix .....

tess73 · 12/08/2014 21:22

is it only in the evenings?

AuditAngel · 12/08/2014 21:28

If there is a chance it is trapped wind, try massaging her stomach in a clockwise direction (not clockwise for you facing her, clockwise if she was doing it herself, or you are behind her. Sorry, hard to explain)

MarshmallowFarm · 12/08/2014 21:37

Would she drink hit peppermint tea? I had trapped wind recently it was excruciating but peppermint tea helped enormously. Good luck finding the answer. Poor thing Sad

clare21 · 12/08/2014 22:06

All these replies are so useful. It is just in evenings, 8pm onwards when she starts to get v het up.

How is she? Any better ?

Eva50 · 17/08/2014 19:27

I had abdominal migraine as a child from age 7. I was always fine all day and it started in the evenings. I now think it was anxiety related with moving to junior school but who knows. I eventually got some sort of medication (I'm not sure what) and it stopped happening. It's worth seeing your GP.

clare21 · 19/08/2014 22:16

It lasted 5 nights, 6 days. Now appetite back to normal. I gave her paracetamol every night. Waiting so see Dr now we are home. Eva really sorry to hear you had it too - perhaps this is all about going into year 6 and the future.
