Startle reflex

Hi there I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced this. My youngest daughter is 2 and has always had a very strong startle reflex. Even as a six month old baby playing the usual games holding them above your head etc would induce such a strong startle reflex that she would hold her breath and turn purple. Walking down stairs I'd have to carry her facing inward or the same would happen. She is now two and it happens still while we are in the car especially on hilly roads going up and down, she clings to her car seat and turns purple. It happened the other day at the park while on the roundabout and she's always hated swings for the same reason. Thanks for reading and I look forward to any replies.

Nt sure of the answer for you but bumping for you.

I was told this kind of reflex is involuntary and children (DCs here on MN) grow out of it. If your DD has always got to the purple stage and it eases without her passing out, it seems like something she's used to. Have you ever been tempted to get her checked out by the GP? I'm not medical but my guess would be if there were some condition underlying this, by age two she'd have shown other signs.

HI thanks for the reply. I'm taking her to the doctor next week just to have a chat about it. She is also the same with loud sudden noises, it's quite distressing for her and us. Other than that she is a healthy two year old :)
