Undescended testicle in 2 yr old

Morning
My son is nearly 2yrs. I have recently discovered that he has an undescended testicle and have been immediately referred to a paediatric surgical urologist. Have now freaked myself out reading up on this a bit more. At this stage I don't know if the other testicle is up there somewhere, or what happens to find out. Read about laparascopic investigation to find out. Am now worried about scarring from laparascopic investigation - and from actual surgical intervention. Don't even get me started on having to have my little man put under a GA..... I know I'm being a wuss and am very lucky that he's been fine up til now and lots of babies undergo major surgery etc.

Just wondered if anyone else has been through this with this age group and if you would mind sharing your experience.

Thank you.

My son had one. It descended by itself thankfully. Better late, I guess. Laparascopic scars are tiny. Other than that, hoping more experienced parents can give you more info and support.

My DS has this At two too. I didn't have time to read up on it just the leaflets they sent me with his operation confirmation. You couldn't tell he had such an operation no scarring plus when they opened him they found it had descended by itself so just to be sure it stayed in place they fixed it in place! That was 13 years ago never any problems. Hope you can feel ok about it.

Hi! My DS had one undescended testes removed at 12 months (at the same time as the investigation).

The op couldn't have been simpler. We were totally wowed - the cut was tiny and in the lap line and was invisible as soon as it healed. He didn't even need Calpol afterwards (we gave him one dose just in case but the consultant said it wasn't necessary). He was absolutely fine immediately afterwards. I think a lot of stuff on the inter web is really out of date regarding the op and the aftermath. We couldn't have been happier.

Tbh, the GA was not fun but every child reacts differently, don't they? And my boy never responded to my attempts to cuddle / comfort him at the best of times at that age. Also the GA effects don't last long at all so even if it's not great it's v short lived. Best of luck to you all.

Thanks everyone - I think it was just the initial shock of finding out he will almost certainly need the op. There is a lot of stuff also on the internet about how it can lead to higher risks of infertility and testicular cancer, which obviously freaked me a bit.

I know we will find out more when we go for the appointment but its always helpful to hear it from other Mums who've actually experienced it!!
