Just looking for advice. Moved to new area, and apparently the water is very hard. dc usually gets a bath every night, and previously we had no probs. But dc's skin has now become all bumpy and scaly all over, and is obvs very dry and irritating. Cream, oil, etc after baths haven't helped. Any advice from those in places with very hard water?

I've always lived in a very hard water area and haven't heard of it causing a skin problem before. Has anything else changed? Could you bathe him less frequently?

Hasn't effected any of my DC when we moved from a soft water area to a hard water one. Maybe he's reacting to something else in the house. Take him to your local GP and maybe he can get allergy tested or the GP can refer you to a dermatologist.

I think it can effect some people. We have done the opposite and moved from very hard water to soft. My dd's eczema has now nearly gone.

Try something like oilatum in the bath, that helped us. Grin

Thanks for the suggestions.
Nothing else has changed, and I'd prefer to try some things at home first before rushing off to the GP, presuming of course my instincts are right regarding the hard water. I certainly can bath dc only a few times a week rather than every night - the bathtime is mostly for dc's 'routine' before bed. Have considered it (although NOT looking forward to any disruption in dc's sleep it might cause!). But will try to skip a few baths this week and see what happens. Smile
Will try oilatum too. Is there one formulated specifically for using in the bath with babies, or can I just use some adult oilatum (currently in the cupboard, so convenient) and mix it in, do you think?
