Dgs aged 7 has been 'under the weather' for most of a week complaining of ear ache and sore throat in the evenings. His temperature goes up in late afternoon too. These symptoms are all conrolled with medication.
The doctor has seen him twice with special attention to his ears. Doc says it is a virus and to just carry on as normal. He is very lively and energetic all day and eats like a horse but asks to go to bed about 6.30, falls asleep quickly and stays asleep till about 7pm. The last two nights he has sweated heavily in the night. He wakes up raring to go.
Dd has asked me to ask here for advice as they are going on holiday next week. The doctor said he would be fine to go and he would gradually improve.

Disclaimer>>> I am not a hcp!

If it was my DC I think I would feel confident of the GP's opinion as long as he was energetic, relatively happy and eating well. He sounds like a healthy boy whose body is fighting the virus off well. (hence temp and sleeping)

That said, always wise to trust one's instincts as a mother and your DD knows her DS best.

Hope he recovers soon and they get their holiday! Smile

Thanks that's the way she is feeling atm. She will review the situation on Friday but unless he is worse they will go. They have rented a villa with a pool so he can be as quiet or as energetic as he likes.

Sounds very sensible. Envy at villa with pool. Hope it all works out.

Back to doc this morning as still saying ear hurts. A different doctor has prescribed antibiotics as the ear is redder. They have been told to go on holiday and use earplugs when swimming...unless there is a burst eardrum on plane in which case no swimming! In any case he is to finish the antibiotics. Dd is a bit fed up as he could have had abx a few days ago to lessen the risk of a perforation. I am jealous too :)

Glad different dr was helpful and hope he can swim! Smile

Quick update:
They flew yesterday morning and I have had two texts. One to say they arrived safely and his ear was fine and a second to say the villa was beautiful, the boys were asleep after lots of pool play (silicone ear plugs for dgs1 though nurse suggested Blutak), and dd and her dh were enjoying a bottle of chilled rose and watching the sunset.
All is well :)
