Urgent MRI/CAT scanner for baby- how to bring forward

Hi,

Just wondered if anybody can advise me on whether there is any way to bring my 1 year old sons scan forward.
He has a large non painful swelling on the inside of his thigh, he was referred as urgent by both my gp and badger and after chasing them all week has finally been given a scan for 2 weeks time. I just don,t think it's good enough, we are going out of our minds with worry but have been told it can't be sooner.
Does anyone have any idea of any other route I can take. We can't afford private.

Thanks.

Can you ring the secretary at the hospital tomorrow and put selves forward as being willing to take a cancellation, assure them that your mobile is switched on and on your person at all times?

Are you in the UK Elsom? The UK has too few MRI machines, which is why you have to wait so long. I hope your son is OK. Have the doctors explained what they think might be causing the swelling? Consider getting a second opinion directly at the hospital perhaps if you think it is something too serious to wait.

You may be able to have it done privately. In London you. Ould approach the Portland Hospital and if elsewhere they may have some suggestions where to go.

Good luck.

Thanks, I will try both suggestions. I work for the NHS and have always championed them but this is ridiculous. The 3 doctors I have seen are completely baffled, I'm not exactly reassured by this. They need to invest in these scanners if this is how long it's taking for people to be seen. Cheers for the replies.

Fingers crossed my dear

Recommend Pedlar's approach - the consultant's secretary is your friend in this, you need to sound desperate but polite. I brought ds2's CT scan forward by 3 weeks by chasing cancellations and by then the lovely secretary knew me quite well and managed to get me in to see the consultant for the results very quickly too.

I would add though that 2 weeks is actually pretty quick (I absolutely understand it doesn't feel like it) and that there will be some very acute emergency cases that will rightly always need priority.
