Recurrent Skin / Soft Tissue Infections - please help

I am hoping for advice from HCP or parents who have been through similar. My DD (6) has had 6 SSTI on her back in the last 6 months, initially linked to where she had molluscum.

The first had to be operated on (in early Jan), resulting in three weeks of wound management. We know the source of that infection, was just one of those things (happened on holiday, treated in the UK).

Since then we have had recurrent infections, many weeks of ABs and various AB creams, treatment with hibiscrub (still used regularly) and nasal ointment (i.e. treatment akin to that for MRSA although no one has mentioned MRSA to us). 3 weeks ago we thought we had got through it. Molloscum all gone, all sites of infection cleared up.

This week another infection came from nowhere. Seems to be where a molluscum once was. More ABs. GP did a swab of infection and tested it was to find out what was causing it (result unclear: no-one can tell me if results are clear or if the were unable to get a decent swab). But no test for MRSA (nasal swab etc.).

I am at my wits end and unsure what to do next. I have a GP appointment on Monday and think I need to push for more tests. MRSA? Immune deficiency? Will these tests be compromised if she is on ABs (previously told, no point in taking swabs if on ABs)?

DD otherwise seems to be in good health. However, when admitted to hospital and they were concerned infection might become systemic (infection obviously v severe) she showed no obvious signs of illness - temp fine and full of energy as normal.

Apologies for length of post. Any advice or thoughts much appreciated.

I have had skin problems and I know how complicated they can be. I can't suggest anything other than asking to see a dermatologist....and trying some Mannuka HOney which is amazing for skin infections. Have a google

Thanks, will look intothe honey.

I should've mentioned that we saw a dermatologist. I came out with some expensive dermal wash and an orange stick. She just confirmed that they were infected molluscum and said in future pop any straight away...

Did you pay the derm? Aren't you in the UK then?

Ask for a swab for PVL (Panton Valentine Leukocidin) It is a type of Staphyloccous bacteria. It is not usually tested for in an MRSA screen but the treatment id different, longer term a/biotics. It is definitiely worth excluding. (It may need to be sent away and your GP may need to speak to the local microbiologist). Also exclude diabetes with a urine dip.

We did pay the dermatologist - nearly £200!!

We are in the uk. An nhs referral was going to take 2 months and the GP wasn't sure whether to make the referral we went to the local private hospital after discussing it with the GP.

Thank you for advice about PVL and diabetes - it's really helpful. I know I need to ask for more tests but want sure what for so this really helps.

Hi, I appreciate this is many years ago but wondered if this ever resolved? We are in a similar situation (but confirmed PVL). Thanks
