Has anyone had this in an older child. Ds is 7 and though it doesn't bother him it needs doing for his orthodontic work to begin.
TIA

Yes my DD was about 7, she was in and out in no time and had a chippy on the way home Smile

DS1 had this done when he was 6yo, then again just before he turned 7yo.

The first time was done with scissors under GA. He was absolutely fine afterwards and was eating straight away. He was really hungry because he had been fasting for the GA. It was sore for a few days then it was fine.

But, I came to realise that his tongue had not been fully released, so we had him done again, this time by a dentist with laser.

The cut was much deeper this time because he had gone deep enough to release the posterier tie. He also had his upper lip tie lasered at the same time. It was done under local anaesthetic and he coped with it really well. Again, he was eating a short while afterwards. I had learned more about it second time round and we were stretching and massaging the wounds to avoid reattachment which ds1 hated, but I bribed him with sweeties which helped a lot.

He got his braces and headgear a few weeks after and had made amazing progress in the 1.8 years since he got them.

Thanks for the replies. I hope he can get it done soon
