Eye test for 7yo DD - What do they do?

I want to book an eye test for DD and I was just wondering what they do? I had an eye test last week and I had that thing where they blow air into your eye. Do they do that with children or is it just the standard 'read letters from a chart' type test.
Thanks

Not sure for 7 year olds nowadays, but from memory, it was read letters, look into eye with the light etc.

I think the air blowing test is for glaucoma, and so for only those age 30+.

DD went last week - hers was stating what shapes she could see on the chart, and then exam with light, but she's only 3 :)

I don't think they do the puff of air thing with kids. They never do with my DD. They do examine the eye with a special microscope like thing, but it's quite calm. My DD often gets eye drops so that the pulpils expand, it's not very nice, but that's mainly at the hospital, not at the opticians. Opticians are generally very good with kids.

My DD (nearly 6) had an eye test recently (she has been having 6 monthly check-ups since a potential problem was identified when she was at nursery).

She had all the same tests I get, so that included photographing the retina and the one where they puff air on to her eyeball. Also checked for colour blindness and for a lazy eye.

My dd and ds have recently been for eye tests, they are 7 and 5. They had to kneel on a chair and put their chins on a support thing while watching a balloon through a lens thing. Then they had lots of tests looking at coloured dots to see if they could see pictures. Reading letters wearing big frames which the lady kept changing the lenses on. Saying whether they could see more clearly with one lens or another, some tests in the dark having lights shone in their eyes. That's about it, took about half an hour, they seemed to quite enjoy it though!!

Thanks everyone. Will book her an appointment and have chat with them.
