Been to go again this morning...ds2 (5) has tonsilitis again.
He has an ENT referral for end of July but we are trying to expedite it....
He has put him on erythromycin - and it's made him feel very sick...anything I can do about that?
In the past 3 months he has had amoxycillin, co amoxiclav and penicillin V - all to no avail.
He has missed so much school, and they have not been very supportive at all :(
We are even looking at going private at he hosptial to get it done over the summer hols.
Is the recovery as bad as I have been told? :(
Will he be in a lot of pain?
What can I do to make it as easy as possible for him?
Thanks.

DS1 had his out when he was 3. He was awake straight away and eating within an hour or so. They told us to give him regular pain relief for a week whether he asked for it or not and I can't remember him complaining about pain at all. He had to stay off nursery for 2 weeks while it all healed.

Erythromycin makes me feel really sick and gives me unbelievably painful heartburn. Would it be possible for him to be put on something else?

DS2 (18mo) now has to have his out but is being referred to a bigger hospital because he's so young.

Trouble is he has had the other ABs I mentioned and they did nothing :(
He is struggling though.
Might phone he dr.

Just spoken to dr and she has given him a different med.

Glad your ds got on so well...sorry your other dc needs it too :(

If the medicine is making him feel sick take him back for something else.

I had my tonsils and adenoids out and gromits put in all at once when I was little. I had a sore throat for a few days but it was just the same kind of pain as tonsillitis and ice cream / ice pops helped with that.

Glad you've got the meds sorted.

Worried about DS2 having it done - it's risky as he's so small. But it needs doing asapHmm

my son had his tonsils and adenoids removed at 3, and grommits put in. FOr us, although I was scared as hell, it was the best thing ever and we have never looked back. the op itself was fine (although I was really worried before hand) and his recovery was fine, up really soon, took it all in his stride.
Yes the recovery can take a while, but children have a great level of resilience and bounce back really quickly. Keep pain meds up 24 hours round the clock, get him to eat normal food asap as this helps the healing process and tell yourself that even if he is one of the unfortunate ones where recovery takes a little longer (I hope he is not) that it will be worth the short term discomfort in the long run.

My son was very small, just turned 2 and on 2nd centile - he is now 7 and on 75th centile, had no tonsillitis or ear infection since, sleeps and eats better, is all round generally happier child and that has had a huge positive impact on our whole family.

Good luck
