DS2 has had MC for a few months now. He is 23mo + took him Gp who said it just has to run its course which i understand can be up to 2 yrs. The spots are on his lower arm, inner thigh + a few on his tum but are getting worse esp on his arm where he also scratches which causes him distress. i dont really want to leave it + know there are private treatments (altho pricey) + also pharmacy creams/treatments which can help + clear it quicker. any recomendations from those who have experienced this? thanks

Bump
I suspect my middle dd has it. What are the private treatments?

Ds3 (age 7) has it. I suspect he caught it from the floats in the swimming pool. The warty spots started showing up in October and they're just coming to an end now: I reckon they'll be gone in another 4-6 weeks. Ds1 had had when he was about the same age and the GP's advice at the time was to let it run its course.

Main thing is to make sure he always uses clean towels to avoid spreading infection. If any of them "explode" you can use Germalene or similar on them but remember to wash your hands after using it as the damned things are very, very contagious (hence the name, I guess). If you're taking him swimming, keep his spots covered with a rash vest or all-in-one suit to avoid further infection.

They are not very nice but IME they disappear after 6-12 months and I gather that the private treatments can take just as long to clear and are expensive.

I know it sounds woo (and I'm anything but, honestly!) but a few friends recommended homeopathy.

We took DS (age 2) to a homeopath 2 months after we first noticed the MC and she gave us 2 lots of pills for him to take that night.

The next morning, all the MC looked inflamed (including the v 'young' new spots that were just developing) and within a week they had all flattened out.

He's now (5 months later) left with a few dark purple freckle like marks where some of the big spots were, but these are pretty unnoticeable and are fading.

She said sometimes it can take a couple of goes to find the right treatment for the child but once you get it, they just melt away. And in our case, that's exactly what happened.

It cost us £45 for a 90min appt and i would absolutely recommend it. Unlike other treatments it doesn't hurt either which is a big bonus if you're not entirely convinced - I certainly wasn't until I saw it for myself.

DD1 had it too, and GP also recommended to let MC run its course. It lasted almost a year and I took DD1 back twice not believing it will go away on its own! It might look unsightly, but it's not really harming our DCs.

Some private practices offer treatment in terms of "burning off" / "popping" / whatever you call it, but is not recommended as it hurts and may lead to long term scarring.
