I'm worried

I'm starting to get the feeling something isn't right with my ds, age 6. All not much when considered alone but when put together don't know if I should worry, or if it's just a boy growing up. I would value your opinions. He us constantly hungry, to the point of distraction, tempers and tears and eats enormous portions yet is skin and bone. Has terrible mood swings, totally wired or angry abd aggressive, tantrums worse than his 2 year old sister has ever had, swings in the moment, often triggered by hunger I feel. Has cramps in his legs, still wets the beds , bowel movements are never firm( sorry tmi) and is always on verge of tears, never happy..... I'm worried? Is that rightly so? Feel like I would be wasting a doctors time? Help me xx

Not wasting a doctor's time at all- you're concerned and you have every right to find out if you can help your little boy.
It does sound as if there could be something causing it, is he excessively thirsty?

The weight and food issues could be something like diabetes, the bowel problems could be indicative of a bowel disease like Coeliac's, or perhaps a thyroid or other metabolic disorder, all of which can cause mood problems as often the child is constantly uncomfortable/in pain, or not getting what their body needs. On the other hand it could be something as simple as a vitamin deficiency.

Definitely go to your GP who can help you find out if there is a root cause, and don't worry about overreacting- parents should always trust their gut instinct.

Take him to the GP. Never worry about wasting time.

You definitely wouldn't be wasting the doctor's time. Make an appointment on Monday and let us know how you get on.

Take him to your doctor and get his blood and stools checked. Don't worry about wasting their time and you'll feel much better that you're doing something about his problems. Good luck!

Thank you all - had a phone consultation with GP today who is going to see my ds (not for three weeks though!) and then do urine and possible blood tests. He said that often there is not a physical issue but good to rule things out. He mentioned both ceoliac and diabetes in discussion. Do feel my child would be more ill if that makes sense? If it was either of these? Will keep you posted. Thank you! Next step - telling my dh - he feels his hunger and mood swings are just little boy behavior and I expect too much from him....??

I would keep a diary for the next 3 weeks of what he eats and drinks, bowel movements, and other symptoms like behaviour and cramps so that when you see the gp you're a step ahead.

Your fears are perfectly reasonable. I have a six-year-old DS and his behaviour is very different to the behaviour you describe. Could be lots of things, but I actually find my six-year-old quite reasonable and easy-going after finding him quite hard work for the past 2-3 years. Most of his friends too seem to be a bit more settled and calm this year too, so I think there is definitely a maturity and independence spurt going on. Never dismiss your worries - you're his DM and know him best. I hope its nothing serious Flowers
