Any experiences of fractured collarbones

My dd 10 fractured her collarbone 3 weeks ago and I could do with some advice.

She is a competitive swimmer and the dr at the fracture clinic advised she could resume swimming at 3 weeks so she is all excited to start again however I asked him about when she could do butterfly and diving but he laughed like I was joking but I was serious. Does anyone have any advice on how long she should wait for these things?

3 weeks thats good mine did it at 13 months ( told unlikely would happen again and she did it at 5 same place.) She was 3 weeks in a holding bandage then it was changed fir another 2 weeks in a less restrictive one but as she was younger they still strapped her up. When it came off she had an obvious lump and we were advised to let her do what she felt like but to ease in with sport - she did a jnr fun gym club and was told to try to avoid excess hand stands and cartwheels for a bit until the muscles were back in action.

Thanks for the reply rosa. The dr said contact sport 4-6 weeks but swimming would be fine at 3 weeks. I'm worried she might push herself even though it's hurting just because she loves swimming and she has been keeping her pain a secret since she fractured it just because she wants to be better.

When DD went to the docs for her final check they diddn't want to do another x ray ( as she was so young) they had a gentle feel and did a movement check , very gently . However, you could see that she wasn't in any pain compared to the 3 week strap change when they did the same and she sort of raised her whole shoulder to combat the discomfort . Ok she was 5 ...I also spoke to a physio who gave me some great tips for easing back in and 'using' the arm/ shoulder properly. She is 8 now and the lump is gone ....I know where it is / was though!!!

This is a littler bit different as my dd was younger. At 3 yo she fractured her collarbone. Three days later she was out of the sling, it was fully repaired within a fortnight! I was absolutely amazed. No lump., full mobility.

I think the best rule is if they are in pain, then stop. Sorry, I know she is not really listening to that. I'm sure dd was off painkillers in about a week. At the time she did it, the gp said we had to go to A&E in a ambulance, they were about to give her morphine; then three days later she was essentially fine.

Thanks for the replies, the dr advised on some arm actions she had to be able to do to go and she can do these and says it doesn't hurt but I think it's because you get no follow up to check its healing/healed that it makes me feel nervous about heralding it worse.
