Chicken pox and something else?

My DD is 4. She is usually very, very healthy. 3 weeks ago she had a very mild case of chicken pox. She was not unwell with it and had less than 50 spots which she did not really find too itchy.

At the same time as this, my DS(2) had a very bad cold/virus with a nasty cough (not sure if this is relevant).

So her spots scabbed over and she went back to playgroup/nursery on the Monday before half-term. She has seemed fine although her eczema does seem a little worse than normal.

On Sunday night she had a severe headache, crying and very lethargic. Calpol and sleep sorted it out, although she had a bit of a residual headache on Monday. She then seemed fine although has looked very tired (we had a very busy weekend).

On Tuesday night she started really complaining of itchy feet and toes, which actually prevented her from sleeping. We assumed athlete's foot so gave her some piriton to stop the itching and put some daktacort on her foot (she has been prescribed this previously). When I had a good look at her feet later that night there were lots of little blistery things around her toes.

This morning, I noticed little red spots on her fingers. When I had a look this evening they again look like little blisters. Her toes are now a mess - the blisters have been burst and look really sore (although she is not complaining about sore toes).

I did a search on NHS direct and thought it might be hand, foot and mouth but she has no spots in her mouth and has not really been unwell.

DS has now come down with chicken pox and it has taken him over a week to go from one spot to many spots! (He had 5 days with just one spot!!)

I am a little worried about DD but do have a GP appointment for her on Tuesday. Anyone else seen similar? Any ideas? Could it be hand, foot and mouth but without the mouth bit?

I think when my son had hand foot and mouth he only had two of the three (can't remember which two sorry)

My immediate reaction to your description was also hand, foot and mouth.

My dd had hand, foot and not mouth. Her blisters weren't itchy but were quite severe. You can see where it has affected her nail growth.

Thank you all. That was the conclusion that I was coming to. She was really upset when I told her she was ill; she does not feel ill at all so does not want more time stuck at home!

I don't think you have to stay home with hfm.

Does sound like HFM with very bad timing! When I had hand foot and mouth I had very small blisters on hands and feet nothing in my mouth, but I found them painful they were burning. Might explain keeping her awake. Ds1 had nothing on hands and feet but spots all round mouth.

It was mild though for all of us that got it and cleared up in a few days. Hope she feel better soon.
