Poor eye sight and swimming, perscription goggles on NHS?

Hi, dd1 has pretty poor eye sight and relies on strong glasses, she is lost with out them, she starts swimming next week at school, she struggled last year but since then her eyes have got slightly worse Sad, she's anxious enough about swimming (cant swim but likes being in the pool) so not being able to see makes things even harder.

Is it possible to get prescription goggles on the NHS? if not then how much do they cost? I don't like the idea of spending out a huge sum of money for something she will only wear for a few weeks, last year we bought her prescription sun glasses which cost me £100.

Have a look here. They do children's as well as adults, £20 - £30.

Not sure what size to get her, she's 10.5 and the kids ones say age 4-11?? wouold it be best if I got adult size so they last longer?

I got the Blick ones from that website, and they are brilliant - a lifetime of not being able to see anything in the pool, and its been a revelation!

I'd get the adult size in your dds case

I got prescription goggles from that website earlier this year. Revelation! Should have done it 30 years ago!!

With the sunglasses specsavers often do 2for 1 on the kids glasses and they will do the 2nd pair as sunglasses if you ask nicely.

I got my dds goggles online too - about £30 but she has a weird prescription. They are fab and her swimming has vastly improved.

What I did was write my phone number on a bit of ribbon and tie it to the straps of the goggles - she did leave them at the pool one time and they called me straight away.

Thank you, I bought a small adults pair, will be putting a bit of ribbon on them (great idea), she's due a eye test soon so I might take her to spec savers.

www.prescription-swimming-goggles.co.uk/OptiSwim_Junior.html - dd has these (aged 10 with a big head!) and they fit fine and have room to extend still
