dd11 missing a back tooth

just out of interest, does anyone have a dc with a tooth that has never appeared? went to dentist with dd today and was told by a VERY concerned dentist (who actually freaked dd & myself out) that they were (quote) very worried that one of the larger teeth at the back had never come through (there is a gap in the gums). she kept going on about impacted teeth etc. dd has no discomfort and no problem chewing at the back. dd is on a waiting list for a brace (fingers crossed early next year) and was told by dentist that they will xray then so can look to see if they can see the tooth then. i am not worried about it as my take on it is if she has discomfort in the future she can have the tooth removed but the dentist was really going on about it. also upsetting as she (dentist) made a BIG DEAL about how bad dd's goofy teeth are. dd doesn't have a big issue with them. she is on a waiting list, has been for over 2 years. i said to the dentist other than have her put on the waiting list we cannot do anything else (the dentist said my dd's teeth were urgent and that she shouldn't be on a waiting list Hmm like there's anything i can do about it ie tell the orthodontist how to do his job/organise his waiting list. stressful for me and poor dd as all this was said right infront of her (re how had her front teeth are) although fortunately she isn't vain so wasn't overly bothered, just a little concerned

My nephew (11) has no adult bottom two middle teeth below the baby ones. When the baby ones finally fall/are taken out he will need some orthodontic work too. It is more common than you think, and apparently hereditary.

I had a friend at uni who had NO adult teeth at all, apparently both her parents were missing adult teeth and she must have inherited it from both. She still had her milk teeth but knew that eventually she would have to have full dentures

I think missing teeth are fairly common. Ds2 has the 2 teeth to either side of his top front teeth missing. His canine teeth were growing in their place.

It wasn't very professional of the dentist to worry you.

Has she had xrays taken? That would confirm whether the tooth is lurking or whether there is no tooth at all (so nothing to worry about).

FWIW - I only have 1 wisdom tooth that came through and I'm middle aged. Two don't even exist and the other decided to stay at a weird angle at the top of my gum/jawline.

My gut feel is to leave it alone and see what happens.

I have no wisdom teeth, and one tooth next to where my wisdom teeth should be is missing too. They just aren't there.
