Sunscreen allergy (again sorry)

Ok well this is embarrassing given I've recommended this so many times and used it last year absolutely no problem and no reaction from my eczema suffering child.

Well looks like dd2 has reacted to it (and mildly to dds sunscreen too) so my non allergic child appears to have a rash where I put the sunscreen Confused so could you look at this label for me please and tell me what ingredient is the most likely culprit so I can cross reference alternative I've possibly found and make sure it's missing.

Tia

Does it say Dimithicone on there. I'm allergic to Dimithicone

ILoveCoreyHaim · 20/05/2014 15:16

Yep Google Dimithicone allergy. It's a silicone. I had a really bad reaction and one of my dds mild. It's In loads of products

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/05/2014 15:16

Yes it has it.

I shall check the other one doesn't

It's really hard to find products without it tbh. There's not much I can use anymore. It's in almost all cosmetics and creams. It's banned in some countries

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/05/2014 15:34

It might not be that but that's what ours was off. My head was like a football with a horrible rash. After reading about it I chucked everything out so we are dimithicone free. Took a week to get over it

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/05/2014 15:41

:( 3-18 days delivery I'll have to see if it's available somewhere else

Have you tried Sunsense, you can get this from your GP for excema ....

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/05/2014 15:46

Dd2 hasn't got eczema so she won't get it.

Dd1 is fine with the anti allergy one she has

I've been using the badger one but it's expensive. What's yours that's dimithicone free.?

It's called goddess garden but delivery seems to be a few days as there are no uk stockists I've found yet apart from amazon but that could take days

The only chemical free sunscreen I've found is laverna, a zinc based product. Ds is allergic to dimethicone amongst others. The consultant who did his allergy testing said true allergies were rare, ds was the first he'd ever seen, and most people are just sensitive to the ingredients.
The fact is these chemicals are in everything and they are not good for any of us. I think his allergy is a blessing in a way as it opened my eyes to the crap we put on/in our bodies. Some of these chemicals should be banned imo.
As a result I now only use natural organic cosmetics/cleaning products etc. It's just unfortunate it's so bloody expensive.

ILoveCoreyHaim · 20/05/2014 16:08

They are so expensive. My MIL brought me back 2 bottles of badger balm last year from the states and I have red conflicting info with one site saying it had trace amounts of dimithicone. I have used it one the kids and non of them have reacted. I need a cheaper alternative I can buy here. I used to love the Asda own make but I can't use that anymore

ILoveCoreyHaim · 20/05/2014 16:09

Damn autocorrect

ILoveCoreyHaim · 20/05/2014 16:12

I had a full on reaction to it. The same as when you see the photos of people who have had a hair dye allergy. My face, neck and head were swollen to twice their size. I thought I had mumps at first. Yes it's rear I have never known anyone else be allergic to it. It was Nit rid triggered my reaction

ILoveCoreyHaim · 20/05/2014 16:15

When I read up on it I couldn't believe it. Apparently dimithicone is in chicken nuggets and tropicano juice as well as in industrial stuff. Scary

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/05/2014 16:22

Good grief what's it doing in food.

I swear it's a conspiracy. How can my non allergic child suddenly come out in a rash from sunscreen we've used before with no problem when she was much younger Confused

I'd expect this from dd1 not dd2

Well I've found lavera thanks to poster above it has no domithicone and hopefully will be fine.

Bloody kids :o

Are you in the UK? Is there a reason why you are not using a prescribed sunscreen from your GP? My DS1 has to use one as he is allergic to sunscreen.

FFF x

Gileswithachainsaw · 20/05/2014 16:37

This is the first time we have had a problem with dd 2. I found one that was chemical free for dd1. None of the stuff we got for her eczema from the dr worked so it took a long time to find stuff that did and when I did I stuck to it and is all mail order stuff. Don't see the point in trying anything else on dd1 it took me 5/6 years to find what I use now so tbh I doubt dd1s eczema is even on the radar any more at the gps.

And ive never had a problem with dd2 this happened a few days ago assumed was heAt rash but got worse today noticed on collection she was very rashy where I'd put the sunscreen.

I looked at sunsense which is what drs prescribed and it contains domithicone but dd hasn't got eczema so doubt dr would prescribe anyway
